Anyone else have a newborn that refuses to nap?
This is a TOTALLY new experience for me...
My DS is 3 weeks old and will literally fight his naps. He will be awake for 3 hours at a time. When he finally does nod off, it's usually so close to his next feeding time that he wakes up in 20 minutes or so.
The only time he seems to sleep well is when I'm out. I had lunch with friends the other day--I was there for 3 hours and he only woke up when I changed his diaper...he slept the whole rest of the time.
I'm so tired...my 18 month-old has been sleeping for 1 1/2 hours now, and my DS has been fighting his nap for that long exactly...and as my luck would have it, he'll fall asleep right at the time she wakes up.
I'm so tired.  DD spoiled us so badly--as a newborn, the minute her eyes closed, I knew I had at least 3 hours until she was up again

DS was this way-he was/is a cat napper in the day. But-he did start STTN at 3 months, so I'll take it.

we are the opposite.
josh was a nightmare. never napped unless i held him...for 8 months. then just never napped after that.
jessie is a napper, anytime she is asleep we always celebrate to the best baby in the world, because it is still so shocking to us that babies sleep!

yes, dd2 fights sleep during the day but isn't bad at night. she settles much easier during the day when swaddled tightly. some days she'll go 4 hours or so between naps.

DS at over 3 months STILL refuses to nap!!! It makes for a VERY VERY VERY cranky night!

DD is 5 weeks and sounds the same. I am just trying to have a consistent routine with her and trying to get her used to her crib but its frustrating. DS was also a terrible napper at this age though and became a rockstar napper after a few mos (he'll be 3 in Oct and still does a 3hr nap!). What helped with him was the FP rainforest soother but I think DD & your DS are still too young to be interested in that.
Hope it gets better

Ditto with DS. it would take me an hour to get him down for a nap, and within 20-30 min he'd be up rearing to go.

same experience for me. my first daughter would nap for 3-4 hours at a time. she loooved her swing and it would amaze me how long her naps were.
i was looking forward to that with DD2 so that I could get some good quality time with DD1 (who was 13mths when DD2 was born.) Nope--DD2 was not a napper. 10-20 minutes naps, and only while being held. I just had to learn how to play with DD1 while holding DD2 all day. (and gave up on any attempt at cleaning my house or cooking)

I have had the same issue. Like you, my older child was and still is a great napper and sleeper, so this is new to me.
My DS is now almost 12 weeks. I have seen some improvement in the past several days by doing the following:
- Following the 2 hour rule- if he is awake longer than that, then he is overtired and won't nap. SO I try to get him to go down before then.
-Take him up to a quiet room and put on his noise machine. I also swaddle for naps with the miracle blanket. He sleeps at night in his sleep sack, but seems to need the swaddling for the naps.
-Rocking and swaying him a bit, sometimes with the paci.
The key seems to be removing him from a noisy room. When his big brother is around and making noise- it overstimulates him.

Both my kids were this way. It sucked but you just learn to deal until they figure it out. I think around 6 months or so we got on a good nap schedule with both.

DD did this as a newborn and now she is 12 months and still is not a great napper. It got alot better once we got on a schedule but that wont happen for you for a few months. Does he like the swing or the boucer? Can you lie down with him? take him for a walk? I really dont know what else to suggest because none of it ever worked for my DD! good luck!

This is exactly our situation. I wanted to be sure to give DD plenty of attention so she wouldn't feel that the new baby came and took us away from her. My DS makes it nearly impossible to do much of anything with her.
And my house...forget it. It looks like a bomb exploded in here. The laundry FINALLY got done, thanks to my DH and his lack of clean underwear (LOL). But the laundry is typically something I do during DD's nap, and DS is always fighting to stay awake at that time.
And as for cooking...we eat a LOT of cereal these days and had ice cream for dinner a few nights ago.
