Anyone else a little afraid...

Your dh will be at work when its "time"..
Im watching "Baby Story' and she is scheduled for a c-section and the husband got stuck in traffic (he went home for her bag and to stop at his office..something like that),,Anyway, he made it in time..
My fear is DH will be at work and he has a decent 45 mins. ride to the hospital. I dont want him to miss the birth..(I know you can be in labor for hours) but my mind still races with these thoughts.
Am I the only one?

Re: Anyone else a little afraid...

DH works in the City it would take him about 1.5 hours minimum to come back home.

Yes, I am "concerned".

Re: Anyone else a little afraid...

Yeah, I get concerned that he won't answer his phone or he won't be able to leave when I need him to. I am not overly obessed, but I do think about it.

I am too a little bit. Hopefully, if he's stuck in the middle of a case, one of his colleagues will be able to relieve him. And hopefully, traffic will be smooth for him too.

I guess I'm more afraid that I'll go into labor on the subway or train. I'm praying that it starts when I'm at home!

Oddly, I am more concerned I will be at work. I work in Manhattan and am delivering on Staten Island.

I don't worry about DH. He is an EMT. He can get anywhere VERY fastChat Icon

I'm more concerned that I'll be at work. I'm due on the last day of classes at Hoftra and I'm due to deliver at NYU Medical Center in the city. DH will only be around 10 minutes away from the hospital from the subway.

you girls don't know what concerned is!
DH works on a ship about 100 miles off the coast of Louisiana. If i go into labor before his time off I'm in TROUBLE!

He can only get a helilcopter off the ship at 9am each morning. After the hour helicopter ride, the hour bus ride to the airport and the flight back up to NY its 5pm and thats on a good day.

YES! My DH works in New Jersey and takes the train to and from work. He is taking off as of Christmas, but if I go earlier, I won't have him here. And I have no other family in the area so it looks like I am calling an ambulance or walking.

Luckily mine only works 7 miles away.

I'm more nervous that he will be able to stop traveling entirely for about two months (hard to do since he he is sales) so he can be close to home.

He might have to miss one of his company's trade shows.

ETA: I have to drive from East Northport to NSUH Manhasset... let's hope it's not during rush hour and snowChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Anyone else a little afraid...

When my mother went into labor with me, so the story goes, she was in Roslyn. My father worked in Brooklyn and drove home to bring her to the hospital in downtown Manhattan. I dont know how she did it.

We live rather close to the hospital where we will have our kids some day - no more than a mile. DH works in Brooklyn. I am hoping I am strong like my mother and can keep the lil suckers in there til he gets home or hope that when the time comes, it is not on a Saturday during football season or I may be on my own!

YES! DH will be working at a pre-interview type thing in the city for 2 weeks at another location and doesn't even plan to mention that I'm PG. I will be 37 weeks when he comes back! Chat Icon

Re: Anyone else a little afraid...

My husband worked in Manhatten when I was pregnant with my daughter and I felt the same way. He was at work when I went into labor 3 weeks early but made it home with hours to spare. I even waited at home for him before I went to the hospital. Don't Worry!

Re: Anyone else a little afraid...

Very! My DH travels for work- if this baby is early he may not even be in town!

He usually turns his cell phone off at night- I told him that practice ends now!

Re: Anyone else a little afraid...

DH was more concerned than I was. Delivery of your first typically takes many hours. As long as he leaves right away, he SHOULD make it in time!
I ended going in on a Saturday and had my beatuiful little boy on Sunday monring. That was the best way to do it! Chat Icon

My DH almost missed it -- I was in labor for over 39 hours with absolutely nothing at all happening, he left for 30 minutes to get lunch, I went from 4 to 10 and started pushing without him. Boy was he surprised when he walked back in!
