Anyone else a big baby when it comes to blood tests?

I know that I need to get over it and I'm being a big baby but I have my first blood test tomorrow morning and I keep freaking myself out about it.

I'm pretty sure that the last blood test I had was 25 years ago when I was 10. I had to have a lot of blood test around that time and usually got a black and blue. I had several bad experiences and it was traumatizing for me as a kid.

I'm weird because getting novocain doesn't bother me. I even had a tooth pulled that didn't want to come out, essentially with no novocain (I had an infection so it didn't take). I was OK with that but blood tests Chat Icon

Re: Anyone else a big baby when it comes to blood tests?

I was TERRIBLE with needles and the like, but once I got pregnant, I sucked it up and dealt with it. I just kept thinking of how important it is for the baby. But I was in my L&D class asking if I could avoid the IV and then I asked my OB about it (he said no way because it could be a life or death situation and he wants it ready to go just in case -- as it turns out, I lost a LOT of blood at the birth and needed a lot of fluid so it was good I had the IV in... and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be).

But every blood test at the beginning, I'd close my eyes and try to pretend it wasn't happening. I'd get nervous, I'd almost cry... and then it stopped being so bad. As I knew my baby was growing healthy, it got easier and easier to deal with the needles and blood draws.

You'll be fine! Just tell the nurse when you get there that you're nervous about it and to please be gentile. The ones at my practice were FABULOUS! I even told the nurse in L&D that I was really scared of the IV and she was amazing about it!

I don't mind blood tests at all. I don't even flinch and I can watch the blood coming out and all.

BUT I was a HUGE baby with the 3 hour test. I wasn't too happy with 4 needles in the same vein. It was really hurting after the first 2 and I couldn't even watch!!!
