Anyone doing or done the polar express train ride in Essex, CT?
We are going on the 2:30 train on Sun. Dec. 16th. I was wondering how everyone liked it, and if there is a good place in the area to grab dinner after the ride. It is 2.5 hrs away so I want to do something besides just the train ride. TIA!

We went last weekend . Loved it!! . We stayed at the Hilton in Mystic, CT and ate at Mystic Pizza. It's about 30 minutes from the train.

We are going too. Staying at the Hampton Inn. DS is train obsessed so we try and do a lot of train stuff. I think he'll love it. Also dvred The Polar Express movie and he's watched it twice.

Anyone doing or done the polar express train ride in Essex, CT?
Thanks ladies. DS is to young to "get" the polar express concept, he is 19 months, but he loves trains and is getting a train table for Christmas so we figured why not. We can't stay overnight, my in laws and parents are coming and my DH, mom, & stepdad all have work on Monday. We are leaving NY around 11 AM, doing the 2:30 train, grabbing dinner somewhere, and hope to be home by 8 PM. Long day, but I hope worth it!

I would also do a day trip if we took an afternoon train. Our ride is at 7:30. We are doing the seaport a bit but it might be very short lived if the weather is too cold.
Are you having ds ride the train in pjs?

No, I don't think so. I guess the afternoon trains are not ""polar express", they are santa express. They said it was more appropriate for the under 5 crowd so we booked that. We will do the night train ride, with the PJ's, when DS is a little older.
