Re: Anyone delivering at North Shore Manhasset?

I am. I will be honest - when I visited, DH and I were a bit disappointed. Apparently they are renovating and it will be amazing when they are done but the rooms we saw were shared rooms and small - there was a lot of clutter in the hallways, lots of rooms we looked into seemed messy. I am not so excited about staying there, especially now that I have to have a C and a long stay but I am told it is a good hospital and the nursing staff is very helpful.

did they tell you when the renovations will done? if the rooms are very small, i doubt husbands are allowed to stay with you?

They are but there isn't a bed for them - just a chair or something i think. My DH said he wouldn't stay overnight there and I understand. I think I heard renovations will be done by late spring but I am not sure - apparently it will be very nice once they are done - it's a whole new wing and i think all solo rooms.

It is, the nurses were great, they allowed anyone to be with me. I had no complaints!

Re: Anyone delivering at North Shore Manhasset?

It's a great hospital..and one of the best with the area. I picked the hospital b/c it's affiliated and close to Cohens children's hospital if god forbid anything went wrong....

That being said its not the "prettiest" hospital, but I decided the care was much more important to me than the look of it. Chat Icon

Re: Anyone delivering at North Shore Manhasset?

they SAY renovations will be done this spring. they are also renovating LIJ womens center. I haven't seen how far they are. but, DH who works in both hospitals, says he doens't see any way this will happen- it looks liek a disaster still. but, he's in healthcare, not construction, so take that into consideration. anyhow, my OB also said it still looks liek a disaster. I'm due in april, delivering at LIJ, hoping it will be ready, btu not expecting it

Re: Anyone delivering at North Shore Manhasset?

I just delivered there and the Nurses were so great! so friendly and nice.

The renovations didn't affect us at all, your don't hear any construction noise or anything. The only time I hear the construction was when I took a breast feeding class.

We shared a room and it was ok, who really likes to share a bathroom and shower but we had no choice. DH slept on that chair it was very uncomfortable but he didn't want to leave me.

I would suggest at night you send your baby to the nursery so you can get some rest.

Food is Horrible lol but theres a deli on the main floor so your DH can bring you food from there or outside.

Make sure you take home all the stuff they give you, diapers, formula etc...

My overall experience was good and I would deliver there again.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks. It would be great if the hospital was renovated quickly for the comfort of all of us but in the end the hospital has a great reputation and that is what matters the most to us. A comfy room would be a plus Chat Icon

Re: Anyone delivering at North Shore Manhasset?

I delivered there this past April. The staff is wonderful! I did share a room, but i didn't mind too much and my roommate was alittle psycho!

The nurses were soo great.

They offer a bathing class in the mornings, we went and got to give DD a sponge bath and they give you all the supplies to take home!!

Food is GROSS. Get someone to bring you stuff. Everyhing else was really great!

Re: Anyone delivering at North Shore Manhasset?

I was a candy striper there for years in the maternity ward and I loved it there. If I were still in NY, I'd definitely be giving birth there.

My mom has been in and out of NSUH over the past year after her kidney transplant and all she ever complains about there is the food. But the deli downstairs has fabulous food and lots of choices.

The rooms are kinda small and almost all doubles at least right now, but the new women's pavilion should be amazing when it's done. I heard mid-may as well.

Re: Anyone delivering at North Shore Manhasset?

I had my son there in May '09, and I'm having my next one there May '11. I've visited friends in other hospitals, and these rooms are much bigger. No one likes to share, but they were plenty big for 2 people.
Dh slept on the recliner all 5 days I was there. He said it was uncomfortable though.
Staff was great and helpful (except for the lactation nurse Nazi)
