ANyone deliver under General Anesthetic?

I know it is unconventional and not really done anymore but based on my current medical condition it is being discussed. I did some preliminary research on it and I am not digging it at all but I thought I would come to the ladies on here to see if anyone has any first hand knowledge that they can share with me.

As a L&D nurse the only thing I can tell you is that it is only usually done in an extreme emergency or under rare circumstances. When you have spinal anesthesia they give you pain medication along with the anesthesia that usually lasts several hours to make your recovery a little easier. When you go under general you don't get this medication and the recovery right after is usually very rough on the mom.

From the research I have done it does not look fun at ALL. First I was having to adjust to a c-section and JUST as I was coming to terms with that, they threw this curve ball at me, not happy about it although I DO understand why it is being considered.

my friend had this done and while it was not her preferred choice, it was the best for her and the baby. she did have a longer recovery time, but did not have any problems bonding with her son or breastfeeding for that matter.

My friend who had her son 4 days before me- was put completely out. If you have any questions Deb I would be more than will to ask her for you.

Do you have a spinal problem that makes it difficult? Sometimes there are anesthesiologists that are better experienced at that sort of thing...

I am truly sorry that this is being discussed. You may want to really figure out if this is the only way. The issues that come up are that your husband cannot be with you during the surgery and that you have no knowledge of the birth..or any memories. For some that is very emotionally difficult. I am here if you need anything. While this did not happen to me I can't even imagine it.

I had a friend that delivered under GA in November. She had to have an emergency section and she wasnt numbing after the epi. I think she said the worst part was that she didnt get to see the baby right away.
