Re: Anyone been to Rocky Mountain National Park in Coloroado?

I have been several times - I used to live in CO, my parents still do. Are you just going to RMNP? If so, I would just stay in Estes Park. There are a couple of hotels (including the famous Stanley), and I think a bed and breakfast? I think allenspark might have a place to stay too, not sure though. Lyons is right at the bottom of the mountain, but i am not sure if they have places to stay.

If you are doing other things, I would stay off the mountains. Longmont is a great town that isn't too far away. Loveland isn't far either, if you stay on the west side of town. Boulder is further away, but there is more stuff to do there.

I have and went through Estes Park! There is so much to do in the park - it can be hard to decide where to start. We did the trails alongside some of the lakes - beautiful mirror image of the mountains can be seen on the water, the open fields filled with elk and the drive up the mountain and seeing snow and just taking in the views! WOW!

I've also visited Loveland Pass (my aunt works at the ski resort there during ski season), Boulder, etc. Great areas, tons to do!

Hi,

Thanks so much for responding.

We're not sure...we'll probably go from Sunday to Saturday...is there enough to see in RMNP for that length of time?

Any recommendations of things to see would be greatly appreciated.

We would like to stay in a condo-type or cottage-type place, so we'll have a kitchen, etc.

TIA

Um, maybe. I have never done more than a day trip up there. If you are really into hiking, you can spend a few days on the trials. We usually walk around Bear Lake. Last time we went around part of another lake (it was March and still a lot of snow on the ground!). I'm not sure what else there is to do there, but I know there are tons of trails.

You can spend some time walking around Estes Park. It is a cute town! There are also a few mini golf places (well at least 1). Maybe the Stanley does tours?

I will ask my parents about lodging. I know one of their friends actually lives in Estes Park. My parents are OOT right now, but i'll see what they know Chat Icon

Re: Anyone been to Rocky Mountain National Park in Coloroado?

Well, my parents just said to go on the estes park web site, and they have a listing of places to stay. Not much help LOL

I would stay in Longmont or maybe Boulder if you wanted to go to Denver. Loveland if you wanted to do things up north. There is hiking and such all over the front range.

Any comments about Wildwood Inn?

Looks very nice and lots of good reviews on TripAdvisor.

Sorry it took me so long to reply - I was away on vacation.

I will ask about tht inn.
Also how many of you are going and for how long? My mom said she'd ask her friend who used to work at the visitor's center.

Thanks...

Hope you had a nice vacation.....

My DH and I will be going.

We've decided to fly to Denver on an early flight on Monday. We'll stay in Denver two nights. We'll go to the Mint, Planetarium, Capital Dome, and Air & Space. Then, we'll take a leisurely drive to Estes Park on Wednesday. Any suggestions on a good route? On Sunday, we'll take a leisurely drive back to Denver. We'll fly home on Monday.

Hi....

I've been looking at TripAdvisor and people recommended the following

Mary's Lake Lodge
Brynwood on the River
Deer Crest
Black Canyon
Bugle Point
Woodlands Falls River
Discovery Lodge
Castle Mountain Lodge

We'd like a cabin near mountains and not too far from the park.

I don't know which to pick.

Just wondering if you or your parents have heard of any of these.

Thanks so much

Sorry to be a pain

I found Windcliff website...

Views look amazing. Prices look reasonable.

Do your parents know anything about them?

Thanks SO much

Re: Anyone been to Rocky Mountain National Park in Coloroado?

Ok here ya go...

My parents say:
We stayed one night at M Lake Lodge. It's a beautiful, old building within close driving distance from RM Park. It is more like the Stanley, a big hotel. There is a nice restaurant there. We ate at Black Canyon once; I think they have cabins. They could check the cabins at the YMCA; It is near the Park entrance but not fancy at all.

Their friend who used to work at the welcome office says...
I added some info to the selections but all would be good choices.

The visitor's bureau is
www.estesparkcvb.com

Can you ask about these?

Mary's Lake Lodge
(A landmark lodge updated with many amenities. Beautiful hillside location overlooking Mary's lake with good restaurant on site.)

Brynwood on the River
(Cute cabins located near the Big Thompson river with mountain views.)

Black Canyon
(Nestled in large rocks and trees with mountain views.)

Deer Crest
Bugle Point
Woodlands Falls River
Castle Mountain Lodge
(The above four resorts are good choices on Fall River and also have easy access to the the Park and to town.)

Discovery Lodge
(Convenient downtown location with mountain views, near the lake path, shops and restaurants.)

We'd like a cabin near mountains and not too far from the park.
(Estes Park, the town, is in the middle of the mountains.
The National Park entrances are 4-5 miles from downtown.
A free local shuttle service also connects with the free park shuttle and provides
easy access to the Bear Lake area where hiking is very popular.)

She also mentioned Windcliff.
(Windcliff has many lovely panoramic accommodations that rent for the week.
We have friend's that have a home there to rent by the week with great views.
If interested in that, I would send their info to you.)

....I'm not sure if that really helps or not Chat Icon

That's OK.

If you don't mind...can I ask you another question?

Can you recommend a route from Denver to Estes Park for a leisurely drive...and one with sites to see?

Thanks for all your information.

Re: Anyone been to Rocky Mountain National Park in Coloroado?

I asked my mom and as usual she answered with a million questions lol Here's what she said:

Are they coming from the airport? They could take Rte. 36 through Boulder to Lyons and up to E.P. I-25 to 66 west to Lyons. West of Boulder on ?? road that goes to Nederland. I-25 north to Rte. 34 has a lot of rock and a canyon. Where do they live? Are they used to driving in mountains? When are they coming?

We will be coming from downtown Denver...staying there 2 nights.

We live on Long Island.

We're staying in a house in Windcliff.

We went to Jackson Hole Wyoming for our honeymoon and rented a house in the mountains.

We are arrive in Colorado on Monday 10/12
