Anyone adopt through a rescue?

DH finally agreed to get another kitten with the stipulation that it be a Maine Coon Ok...fine....let get a cat that will be bigger than a small dog whatever. So I found one on petfinder that is through a rescue and submitted an application via email...it came back returned due to mailbox being full. I tried again the next day....full....and then the next day.....full. Finally, I sent the email to the general email address which is where I sent my original inquiry. I have not received any response in over a week. Any idea how long these things take? Personally, I'd rather go down to the animal shelter and pick out a kitty but DH wants this dang Maine Coon On the other hand, how can I NOT adopt this crazy/cute looking kitty
