Anybody want a cat?

I have a 2 1/2 year old female cat...she is declawed and spayed. The vet recommended that we find her a home where she is the only pet as she has been acting out recently and it's due to stress. Nobody is sure why she has started this in the last few months as we had gotten a dog, but that is almost a year ago. Anyway...she is a very good cat, friendly, sweet. If anyone is interested or knows of anyone...please let me know. I am so sad to have to give her away, but I don't know what else to do. I have tried medication, a spray that the vet recommended, etc. Chat Icon

Re: Anybody want a cat?

I understand that you got a dog. But why does the cat have to go? The cat has been acting out cuz of the dog. I feel bad that the kitty has to go cuz of the dog...

I'll ask around. DH would have been interested but he just agreed to adopt a cat this week and we have a very small apt. and unfortunately don't have the room for two. Chat Icon

Have you tried Feliway plug ins?
They have helped my cat. After a couple of years with the dog he still hates her but when we moved to our new house he started acting out. I didn't think the feliway plug ins would work but they did.

Good Luck. I would hate for you to have get rid of your cat.

Yes...I have tried the feliway plug-ins along with the feliaway spray...I spent over $100 because I bought 2 plug-ins for different parts of the house plus the spray which I have been using.

My cat was acting up too when we were showing our home to potential buyers. She was always a bit neurotic (she would throw up all of the time). We brought her to the vet and he prescribed Prozac. I was against it at first but she is so much better. We couldn't believe our cat is on Prozac!!

Edited to say: We tried a lot of things before trying Prozac, including the Feliway.

OMG Chat Icon I seriously need to talk to my Vet about this because my cat could use some. How do you give it to the cat? How often?

Re: Anybody want a cat?

Has your vet prescribed valium or a valium derivative for the cat? My DH has had a similar case recently and I think this was part of the course of treatment.

Re: Anybody want a cat?

That seems so sad. If she was there first and responding to the introduction of the dog, have you considered getting rid of the dog?

thats true- I feel bad for the kitty she was there first. and then I feel bad for the doggie too if he has to go too. cant you keep them separated ? like when my kitties dont want to be bothered they hang out upstairs.

Re: Anybody want a cat?

Thanks everyone. I'm going to ask the vet about the other medications you recommended since the one she is taking isn't helping.

As for getting rid of the dog...not an option, DH would die before he would get rid of the dog. I don't want to get rid of anyone....the weird thing is that she is friendlier to the dog than my other cat, so I'm not even sure if it's the dog that is stressing her out. Ugh....why is this so hard Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Definately ask for valium or your vet's recommendation for something similar.
