Anybody getting (or ever bought) their 1.5-3yr old blocks?

I want to get Marron some blocks for Christmas, but I'm not really sure what kind.

I don't have ALOT of room, so I don't really want those cardboard building ones.

I was thinking of some wooden ones that she can build with, but most of them say for 3yrs and up. Is the issue that they can get hurt if they fall? I really don't see the danger in them. The same kind, made of foam say for 12 months and up. I'm afraid she will be biting pieces out of the foam ones, and that they won't really "build" very well.

What do you think of those "mega-blocks" that look like big legos?

Or should I just go with standard square blocks with numbers & letters on them that she can just stack?

Sorry I don't know the real names of any of these things. I'm new to all of this and not real savvy on the lingo!

Anyway, any suggestions?

Jared had the foam blocks and he did bite them. I had to take them away from him because of that. They really don't stack that well either. I bought him these blocks for Christmas. They're 19.99 at TRU.

I have a small block set made by Parents that I got at Target last year. They are soft but are like a rubber so even though he used to bite them they are fine. He loves them. This year for X-mas I am getting him Mega block b/c he is older, 20 months at X-mas

We had foam blocks and they got bitten so out in the garbage they went! But we bought Megablocks (you know, like big legos) And they went everywhere...but the kid liked them. He got them when he was around 1.

Someone bought DS a castle block set. I have no idea where they got it from. He was around 2. There are several different shaped blocks, but they are all castle-related, with images on the blocks to look like stones and ivy. He loves it, and has been playing with it for years.

Those foam blocks would not last a day in my house. I jsut got the cardboard blocks for my DS and I love them. But you're right about them taking up space. My DS loves the megablocks, it's so cute to see him with them. A small amount goes a long way with an 18 month old too. You don't need to have a ton of them.

Im not a wooden block fan. If you have a chewer, they can still chew wood blocks and they can swallow the wood splinters, get them in their fingers and such.

We have a set of plastic blocks that is for age one and up and has it's on plastic bag/case which is nice so we take them with us when we need toys for her at someone else's hous. It's called Mega Bloks and they're all different interconnecting blocks and she looooves them and builds for hours.

we have these - they are from bj's (or at least where we got them!) and samantha loves them....she also got a fisher price set (they come in a smaller zipper bag) with a bithday theme for her 1st birthday which she loves...and not only doe she build with them but takes them in and out of the bag like a nuerotic baby! Forgot about the MegaBlocks. We have quite a few of those, too. Both DC love them.

The metropolitan museum has some cute kids blocks - here is one set - but they have a ton of others.

I know these are probably not the kind of blocks you were thinking of, but my DS has these and he LOVES them! They're great because they nest inside each other so they take up no room at all. He loves stacking them and knocking them down and looking at all the pictures and talking about them. They're cardboard, but they're really sturdy.

Ooooooo those might be right up our alley for now. If we get a playroom added on in the spring, maybe we'll have room for more building type blocks. Thanks.
