Anybody elses baby a terrible napper?

Maddie will literally nap 20 minutes here, 1/2 hour there. So I've been laying down with her in the afternoon and she'll sleep 2 hours (this forces me to rest as well I guess). But here's the thing, I nurse her laying down so she'll fall asleep. I'm sure I'm starting a bad habit but anything to get her to sleep!

yes my dd is... she only will do cat naps lately. only time she sleeps long is if i take her out in the car or for a walk

Each day is a guessing game for me with AJ. He has no consistancy with his naps. But he does nap much longer if he is sleeping on my shoulder or chest.

Hi!.. Savannah does the same thing... naps only 20 minutes to an hour at a time... I generally nurse her laying down once a day when she is really cranky to get her some sleep... It gets me to rest also.... I figured I would break the bad habit later on and deal with it then.. b/c it is working for us now.... :)

My DS will not usually not nap unless I take him for a walk or a drive. Today that didn't work, so I put him in the Baby Bjorn and he conked out.

ahhhhh...this brings me back.

For the first 8 months, I was forced to sit for 2 hours, twice a day while he napped. He never sat in the swing, bouncer...nothing.

I held him...it was either hold him while he slept or hold him while he is yelling and tired.

Everyday I would attempt to put him down and he would wake up.

One day, he went down and just slept. We were in shock. He now naps 3 hours a day in his pack and play.

DS was like that alot too! He would only nap for about 20 minutes at a time. They I started really watching him and noticed that every day at the same time he got really cranky and I could tell he was tired.

So now every day at or just before 3 I swaddle him, take him into his room which is dark, and rock him for about 10 minutes, then I put him in his crib and dont hear from him for 3-4 hours. In the AM I put him in the swing with the white noise on and he falls asleep for 20 minutes.

Ava was a terrible napper until about 7 months when she really started to cruise around the house. Then she was totally wiped out and started napping for two hours straight. Before that, we'd be lucky to get a half hour. I always said that I'd rather her sleep at night than nap.

DD was always 1/2 hour napper, in her crib. Now, I've resigned to letting her nap on/with me. So now we're getting about 1-2 hour naps. Both of us are happy and like you said...we'll get sleep however we can!

I am all about schedules, but my babysitter is always on the go so the napping has been off quite a bit lately.......it makes me crazy!

Jack was the worst napper ever - it was torture for me - I would have to rock him to sleep - and now, he has gotten much better.

Yes, me, right here!! Lainie was the worst napper. She would only nap for about 30 minutes at most! When ever we put her down she fussed, cried.

At night she would wake up sometimes every 20 minutes! On most nights it was every hour - someone had to put the paci back into her mouth.

By 7 months she learned to sleep on her belly and BINGO, that did the trick. She had regular naps and slept through the night.

Now at almost 11 months she is a perfect sleeper/napper. Although she has moments too sometimes!

My advice to you is try and move her into the basinnet/crib, she may wake but is drowsy already and hopefully will go back to sleep. Even if it doesn't work the first time you should still try it, just stick it out and she will get it.

My DS WAS. He was the worst napper! Until 11 months he needed all the tricks you listed. Then he fell into a schedule and now at 13 months he doesn't nurse before sleeping, even at night!

yup i wish for long naps so i can get things done...

and she gets up during the night also..

I want a good nights sleep for me!

DD only does cat naps...10-20 minutes and 30 if I'm lucky. It drives me nuts

DD used to take 1 cat nap and two 1-2 hour naps over the course of the day. Now she only wants to catnap - it is rare that I can get her to take much of a nap at any one time.
