any working moms of early risers/early sleepers??

so it's pretty much official that out of nowhere this kid changed his schedule.

he went from 8:30 pm-7 am to waking up no later than 6.

I am trying to get him down before 7:30 now but I think even that is too late. he's a nut.

and he's just miserable from the time I walk through the door. so no happy and so tired.

I am going to start leaving work at 5 so I can be home by 5:30 but....dh..this just sucks for him b/c it's his busy season and I am trying to keep us eating as a family.

do I just forgo this, have my MIL feed him before I get home....or should I eat with Luce and then feed dh when he gets home???

I just think he really needs to start the nighty night process by 7 rather than 7:30. but I feel so bad that dh will hardly see him if I do that. Chat Icon

how long could this phase last? Chat Icon

Re: any working moms of early risers/early sleepers??

My DS transitioned to an early riser/sleeper shortly after I went back to work.

In the beginning I hated it but, then realized, I preferred the time we had together in the morning because he was happier and more awake then. Like Luce, he was miserable and crabby.

I would put him to bed on the schedule that works best for him - I know you want DH to see him and eat as a family but, if he's tired, he's going to be miserable.

Hopefully he will change his routine back to the way it used to be!

If Luce is truly being a beast and needs more wind down time and an earlier bed time, I would have your MIL give him dinner. This way when you get home you get more snuggle time and can have more relaxation time.

I know it sux that DH is working late right now but maybe this won't be his schedule for long.

Aidan did this a while back so I moved up his bedtime for a few weeks. It helped "reset" his clock and he was then 1. more rested 2. happier and 3. sleeping more soundly and got up at his normal time (6:30-7 am instead of 5:30-6 am).

I agree.

DS usually wakes at 5:30 and goes to bed for the night around 7:30.

We do quick family dinner almost as soon as we walk in the door.

In your shoes I would fee DS early and eat with DH later. There won't be a family dinner but it's only temporary and they both get you at mealtime so that's a plus.

I don't know if I have good advice but DD went from going to bed at 6pm to 7 pm at around 9 months... she's always been an early sleeper.

You have to think of it this way:

Of course your DH wants to see Luce but if it's fussy, cranky Luce, that's no fun for ANYONE.

If Luce is in bed when DH gets home, DH gets to relax and eat with you - which is never a bad thing in any relationship, especially in his busy season.

DH will still see him AND get to spend quality time with him on Sundays. MIL will be helping you by feeing Luce. And by the time late spring/summer rolls around, Luce will be older, able to stay up later, and able to enjoy the time with you and DH.

I know it stinks but Luce shouldn't suffer for your DH's sake Chat Icon Kidding, but you know what I mean Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: any working moms of early risers/early sleepers??

I would allow him to have the earlier dinner time/bed time. If it is obvious that he needs it, you aren't doing anyone a favor by keeping him up cranky and all.

no, you're right. that is what I'd be doing. lately dh has been trying to go in early so he doesn't get out late, but I think I'll tell him to switch it, spend more time with us in the morning, and then come home later so I can have the boy to bed and we can relax. it could also do us a bit of good.

thanks girls.

AJ did that.. drove us CRAZY

She doesn't anymore but omg how annoying that she'd wake up an hour before we had to be up. Worse then she'd go back to sleep and not want to wake up Chat Icon

DS has never been a really early riser, but I do remember putting him to bed before DH got home. There were a lot of days when they didn't see each other at all--DH left too early and got home too late. I did want to eat dinner as a family, but it just wasn't possible. I'd usually wind up having a snack or a bit of dinner with DS, then eating more dinner with DH when he got home. Kind of miss that alone time to be honest--now DS goes to bed later, but we have so little couple time.

I agree...

DD used to have a bedtime of around 9ish when she was much younger. This worked for DH because he would get home late and then he'd be able to spend time with her. Once I went back to work and she was in daycare all day, she was miserable when we'd get home. It was apparent we had to move her bedtime earlier. It sucked, but what can you do? We had to put our wants of spending time with her away and do what was best for her.

DS actually never went to bed late. He decided on his own that 7/730 was the time he wanted to sleep for the night. So now, both kids are in bed at the same time. DH and I eat dinner together and spend a little time together before calling it a night. He makes a point of being home by both of their bedtimes so he can see them (even if it's for 5 minutes), then he goes into the office and will finish up his work.

They are also both early risers (by 6:30/7:00). Sometimes they are both content to just hang out in their cribs until 7:30ish.

Re: any working moms of early risers/early sleepers??

My DS was the same way. He needed to be asleep by 7:30/8 the lastest.

I use to let my mom feed him dinner and then when I picked him up, I had a full hour to play with him and just focus my complete attention on him till it was bath/bedtime.

I felt so bad for DH because there were many nights that he didn't see DS at all, but like the pp said, what good is that time anyway if he is clearly cranky and overtired? It's just frustrating for everyone.

Now that DS is going to daycare, he still gets home the same time, but the 2 hours where I used to play with him are spent cooking dinner and getting him to eat before rushing him off to bed.

It's still 2 hours but it's not the same quality.

I know with my DS, he is just so overtired and out of his mind when we push him past his natural bedtime.

I'm not a working mom, but DH rarely sees her during the week, it's hard on him but he sees her when we've kept her up in the past and it has NOT been pretty

oh no I totally get that, and honestly if I was working, that was a big hang up for me when I got my position offered back to me, bc I knew that she was an early sleeper and I'd rarely see her, probably just the am, and it would kill me that she'd be asleep by the time she got home, but I knew it would have been for the best...

This is why I still bring him to our bed when he wakes up. He snuggles with Dh and drinks his bottle while I finish getting ready. Dh loves this time with X.

I wish I would wake up lol, talking and clapping. Cutest thing ever. Chat Icon

DD and Luce are around the same age.

For at least 6 months now, she has been going to sleep b/t 7 and 7:30pm and is up around 7:30am.

I am a FTWM too and on my very best day I get home at 6:30pm.

DH generally gets home after me.

What we do is I handle the night time routine. Usually my sister (child care provider) feeds her before I get home. When I get home I bath her, give her a bottle (yes, she still drinks one Chat Icon) read to her and put her to sleep.

DH rarely sees her at night.

BUT he handles the morning routine. I need to leave before him, so DD follows him around all morning and he usually has breakfast with her.

On the weekends she spends time with both of us.

It is not perfect; lord knows I want to spend more time with my baby. But for now it works and she seems to be a really happy baby.

Re: any working moms of early risers/early sleepers??

Myy DD just turned 9 months. She has been going to bed for the night between 6:00 snd 6:30 for the past 2 months! She wakes up very early. My DH is also an acountant. He spends time with her every morning before he leaves for work. This gives me a chance to shower and get ready. He gets home late so I would never be able to keep her up long enough for my DH to see her at night. Maybe you could do breakfast as a family instead of dinner....
