any tips on a noncompliant child during diaper changes and/or getting dressed/undressed?

DS has been so diffcult to change lately. He tries to roll over immediately when I put him on the changing table. Sometimes he just sits up and reaches or attempts to crawl for anything in sight. Its horrible! If I try and restrain him, he justs gets louder Chat Icon Any suggestions? He went through a week phase of this a couple months back, but this has been consistent for a few weeks now. He's 14 mos tmrw. TIA!

I keep little toys, trinkets, ANYTHING novel near the changing table and he only gets these items while being changed. Items small enough that he can really grip them and study them. He goes like into a trance and changing him is a breeze......

Same here! We have a drawer in the changing table that we keep a bunch of little toys that are different from all his other toys and that he only gets while he's on the changing table, and we put them away as soon as he's done being changed. That way he doesn't get tired of them.

yup little toys do the trick..or I play peek-a-boo with a wipee on his face!

Or a bottle always worked too when I knew it was a poop diaper so I knew his hands would be busy! Chat Icon

yeah, this age is tricky for diaper changes! i'm going through it too! sometimes i feel she is safer on the floor with the maneuvers she does! work fast and give enticing toys (for me, I can give her something of her sister's).

yeah, it doesnt get better, just worse...

I'll give anything I can get my hands on ..
her brush, her comb
a couple wipes for herself
bang on the A&D tub like a drum & then give it to her....that works for a while
a nightlight

I took one of the light up things from the exercise mat and wedged it between the wall and the changing pad

with my girls i just have to be fast!!! and i mean fast. i think i can change a diaper in under 10 seconds now. getting dressed is another story. but i agree with the other posters give him something that he doesn't normally play with like a brush. good luck!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I give her anything that will distract her...her pacifer, her bottle, my cell phone, stuffed animals, her shoe.

Anything to keep her distracted because she is TERRIBLE with getting dressed.

Screams and cries and tries to get away.
