Any Park Slope residents???
So I am currently living in BK and quite miserable with where we are living for a variety of reasons. We are right smack in the middle of Brooklyn.
I have always loved Park Slope! The child friendliness, restaurants, shopping, the park etc.. It is totally an area I can see myself in. It is very "me".
My issue is the expense. We will probably end up paying considerably more. We aren't in any position to buy right now (for the moment), so we would be renting. I am also more than willing to settle in Windsor Terrace or Prospect Heights for example, just so I could be closer to the area. I know it would be a cheaper option.
Does anybody have any feedback or recommendations. Should we suck it up until we are ready to buy? The problem with buying is that we are just not ready and I don't know if it will be six months, 1 year, two... I am just miserable where we are right now. DH doesn't care if we lived in a shoebox, so long as we are taken care of. I just want better for all of us, especially my daughter.

I don't live in Park Slope but have friends that do and they all love it - for many of the reasons you listed above.
It's a tough call. If you were only going to be renting for a short while, I would probably say stick it out (pocket the extra money and put it towards the house) but I see you mentioned you don't know how long it might be. If it was going to be a year or more, I would consider moving if I really hated the area. If it's less than that, I'd probably just deal with it. Good luck.

I have family members that live in Park Slope. My mom grew up there. One of my cousins left PS because it was so expensive and moved to Kensington (off McDonald near the cemetery) She likes it since it's still a nice area, more affordable and she can easily get to PS on the F line.

I live in Park Slope and LOVE it!!! A friend of mine lives in Windsor Terrace, it is considerably less expensive and she loves it there. Also, in prospect heights they have opened so many new restaurants, shops, etc. and it is a quick walk to PS and easy to get to the subway. If you are looking to save $$ but move, I would seriously consider prospect heights.

I used to live where your cousin lives and I loved it. I also lived in PS and Prospect Heights. I think WT and the area between the Prospect Expressway and Greenwood Cemetery are fantastic places to live, esp with a child. WT is very family-oriented, lots of different age groups, lots of "old timers" in addition to newer families moving in. PS is awesome for shopping but it can get really congested. We were on 7th avenue a few weeks ago and could barely walk down the street without bumping in to someone.
Good luck! I envy you, I miss Brooklyn a lot!
