Any other "obese" MTB?
By BMI I am technically obese. Luckily all of my blood levels are perfect. I don't have any health issues. I read an article showing that obese women are more likely to have c-sections, early labor, etc. I'm worried. What have your doctors told you?
At my last gyn visit before becoming pregnant I asked the dr if there is anything I need to do before TTC and she just said pre-natal vitamins. I know weight is a sensitive topic so maybe that's why she didn't bring it up. I am losing a ton if weight right now (1st tri), and I am going to try to keep my gain to a minimum in 2nd and 3rd tris. Do I really need to worry?
How difficult is it to control your weight during later pregnancy? One woman in an article was about my size (a little shorter, but a little thinner) and she gained over 60 lbs during pregnancy. I know my body can't support that. I want to just gain the 11-20 they recommend for my size, which with this loss will put me where I started. I'm hoping to exercise once the 1st tri sickies pass.

i'm also "obese" and currently 33 weeks pregnant. i didn't show until almost my third trimester but now i have a big preggo belly. i do have gestational diabetes but i had issues with my sugars pre-pregnancy. because of the GD i've had to closely monitor my diet which has been a blessing actually. so far i'm up only a few pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight.

Re: Any other "obese" MTB?
I think I lost 14 lbs? I loved good things and didnt like sweets so Im sure that helped. I ate lots of fruit and drank water like it was going out of style. I still ate bagels and burger and fries once a week. I would get contractions if I didnt drink a lot so I think that helped me maintain. My drs never said anything, but I saw my chart said something about "maternal obesity". Gee thanks! lol

I was very heavy when I was pg with my first..I didn't show for a while but in the end, I gained about 30 lbs. but lost most of it after having the baby..I did end up on bed rest and in preterm labor but that was due to bronchitis (long story) and I did end up with pre-e and an emergency c section but my dr. did not want to do one..he was anti due to my size but never made me feel bad about my weight..I've since lost about 45 more lbs. from my pre-pregnancy weight and know I will be better for the next child, but I am by no means thin now, just healthier...you sound like you will do fine but here is a suggestion IF (big IF, be positive) you end up with a c-section---ask your dr. for a drain..I think it saved me from infection and helped recovery and scar tissue...FM if you want to chat

I am obese according to the BMI and when I was pregnant my doctor did not really tell me to do anything but eat healthy and to try and keep my weight gain to 20-25 pounds. I stopped eating all junk food, drank a ton of water daily and took my prenatal vitamin. I only gained 6 pounds during my entire pregnancy and ds was born at 8-8. I didn't have any health issues, but I did have to end up with a C-section only because I was not dilating past 5cm. Eat healthy, exercise and take your prenatal and everything will be fine. Have a Happy and Healthy 9 months

Re: Any other "obese" MTB?
My bmi pre pregnancies was obese. With both of my pregnancies I had gestational diabetes and didnt gain much weight. With my first DD I gained 30 pounds and my second DD I gained 27. The diabetes diet during pregnancy I found to be the best especially post partum. I lost the weight with both pregnancies very quickly. The diabetes diet is a great diet to follow during pregnancy even if you don't have gestational diabetes. It's not a diet to lose weight but just to watch your carbs and increase your fiber. My no gained 60 pounds when she was pregnant with me. Gaining that much weight can be avoided just by choosing the right meals and snacks to eat when the hunger comes on. With the diabetes diet I had three meals and three snacks a day during my pregnancies. I felt the healthiest I've ever been when I was on that diet. Good luck!

Re: Any other "obese" MTB?
I had no issues with either pregnancy and all going good on my 3rd. I didn't gain that much weight with any of the pregnancies. I'm 27 weeks and think i'm only up 6 or 7 at this point.
Regardless of your body size everyone's body reacts differently to pregnancy. Don't stress to much about it and watch what you eat - don't think you are eating for 2 and drink plenty of water.

Re: Any other "obese" MTB?
I am not currently pregnant but I had two kids while considered "obese". My first pregnancy was easy and I didn't gain much at all. I delivered at 39 weeks. My second pregnancy, I gained more and I had a c-section but that was because I had a hernia. I didn't have GD or high BP. I had normal pregnancies as far as weight is concerned.

When pregnant with DD I was borderline obese. I didn't gain much weight until the very end and even then I only gained 20lbs total my entire pregnancy. The weight came off right away after giving birth and then some. Unfortunately a few years later I gained more weight and I'm tyring to lose it now.
ETA: I did have a csection but that was due to a failed induction..nothing more.

Re: Any other "obese" MTB?
I am obese according to BMI, and was the same with my first 2.
I don't think I looked obese when I became pg with #1 and I had a VERY typical pregnancy. The only issue I had was SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction) which I don't think has to do with weight.
I never lost the 35lbs I gained with #1 before I became pg with #2, and again, normal pregnancy. I failed the 1 hour, but passed the 3 hr. Again had SPD.
Again, never lost weight from #2 (I gained about 20lbs) and now I'm 29wks pg with #3. This time, I look obese. I felt I looked more fat than pregnant because I started showing pretty early.
Now, I DEFINITELY look pregnant (my MIL even asked if I was SURE it wasn't twins ). I've only gained about 9 lbs so far.
Everything will be fine
ETA: I had a C-section due to a failed induction with DD1 and then a VBAC with DD2- went into labor 3 days before my due date. Going for another VBAC with this one.
