Any other moms to be have a shellfish allergy?
I am allergic to all shellfish from shrimp to calamari and everything in between. I also do not eat other fish so I am concerned about geting omegas and DHA for my LO. My Ob gave me a prenatal that has a vitamin and a softgel/fish oil pill to supplement this but told me to contact my allergist to make sure it is ok to take. The allergist told me to call the company to make sure that it is not made with shellfish and they just told me that while there are no shellfish in the ingredients they can't conclusively say that there has not been cross-contamination along the way. SO basically nobody will commit to this and I am a bit nervous to take it so I am going to stick with my other prenatals.
So my question is...if anyone else is in the same situation what are you doing to get the DHA/Omegas and proper nutrition for your LO?
TIA!

I am allergic to shellfish but my doc never told me to take any thing extra. I just a over the counter prenatal I haven't had any problems. Sorry
You can't eat calamari? I thought that was not a shellfish I could be wrong I don't eat it. Can you eat flounder?

Re: Any other moms to be have a shellfish allergy?
She did the skin test on me for calamari and I am allergic to that too. She said that it is hit or miss with shellfish allergies.
I am taking a regular prenatal now but wanted to get additional nutrition for the LO. I may just have to stick with that becuase it is not worth it to risk taking something I am unsure of.
Thank you!

Re: Any other moms to be have a shellfish allergy?
I am allergic to shellfish - and have even had a reaction to tuna, so now I avoid all fish because the allergist said to do so just to be on the safe side.
The pharmacist and allergist both rejected the first pre-natals I was given because of this. My doctor then prescribed Gesticare DHA. Apparently it's ok because its made from algae, and not from fish. So far I haven't had a problem.
Maybe that can be an option?

Re: Any other moms to be have a shellfish allergy?
Hello, fellow fish-allergy sufferer. I am allergic not only to shellfish but anything that swims. It's awfully annoying.
In addition to my regular over-the-counter pre-natal vitamin, I am taking an amazing Omega supplement that has NO fish oils whatsoever (they're the only completely fish-free supplement I've found). I get it at my local health food store. They're called Udo's Choice Ultimate Oil 3-6-9 Blend, and I found a link for you:
Udo's Choice 3-6-9 Oil Blend
It is a little pricey, but it's so worth it. They are not only amazing for baby (brain and organ development), but in addition to the benefits listsed, another possible perk for Mom is that it nourishes and moisturizes the skin from the inside out (possibly reducing the chance ofstretch marks?). I've been taking them from day one and they're great.
Just make sure to by the oil CAPSULES. The oil you take by the spoonful is not so pleasant!
Hope this helps!
ETA: proper link.
