Any moms of 2+ with dh's that work nights???

Dh has worked nights for 3 years now, DD is in preschool so he takes and picks her up from school while I'm at work, I go on maternity leave in 1 week, DD will be in kindergarten next year and will take a bus so I can put her on the bus.

This past 9 months being preggo I've really started to miss dh at night, and want him home and switch his schedule to 7-3:30, which means he'll leave by 5:30 and be home by 5. we've discussed him changing it when DS comes on 4/23.

From your experience, Should i tell him To keep working nights so he can be with kids in the am put them on bus etc or is it worth doing all that in that am, getting myself ready forvwork, DD ready for kindergarten and DS ready to be dropped off at MIL,( the busstop will be outside MILs house) so he's home with us every night, dinner a nd bedtime? I'm thinking it is, 3years of being alone 5nights a week really took it's toll on me as a wife, I feel so lonely most of the time. Im gone by 9am, he's gone 1pm, he's home at 12:30am when I'm sleeping. We see each other in passing 5/7 days a week.

Thoughts????

Re: Any moms of 2+ with dh's that work nights???

My DH works nights and I have #2 on the way. he has never worked days since I've known him, but now being a mom it's much more lonely Chat Icon I'm basically house-bound from 5pm until the next day, unless it's a holiday or special event. DH HATES the day shift at his job, so he will never switch his schedule, plus he gets 12.5% more for working the afternoon or midnight shift. So for us it wouldn't work, but for you it sounds like it could. You will definitely get more time with your DH, and it might be worth it to have the extra work in the morning for the help at night and more time with your DH. I would love it if it were an option for us, but because I'm a SAHM DH's shift works for us and we're able to spend mornings together.

What does your DH think about changing his schedule?

i dont have 2 kids only 1 but i know how you feel...my husband works five 12 hour shits a week and doesnt get home till close to midnight on those days and i have work the next morning at 730...he gets to see DS in the morning but we only see each other in passing our on one of our days off

It def takes its toll but we dont have the option because childcare is so expensive if he is willing to change hours i would totally go for it, i would kill to have my hubby home for dinner every night

It's def doable if he puts in for the change, he's ok with it, he knows it's more work for him working the day shift, but it goes faster and more potential for overtime if we need it or want the extra $$ for something special. There is no overtime for him working this shift.

He's off for 16 days when DS is born so maybe after that he'll put in for it. :)

Thanks ladies at least I'm not alone Chat Icon

Re: Any moms of 2+ with dh's that work nights???

My DH is not full-time but works evenings P/T. He takes care of the kids during the day while I am at work. It works for us even though we end up with only a 15 minute chat between me getting home from work & him leaving for work. It takes day care out of the equation which saves a lot of money and has one of us with our children at all times. Are nights lonely? Sure...that's part of my weight issue. I am looking forward to summer since I am a teacher. DH will work FT days during the summer.
