Any idea what could be causing this (water stains on celing tile)
There are old textured celing tiles in our basement. We keep noticing new water stains. When we pulled down the celing tile, there is nothing there, not a pipe that could be causing it, nothing. All the floor joists and floor boards above it are bone dry not a water stain in sight. Could it simply be from the humidity? These tiles are VERY old and will be replacing them very soon...

Water can travel across pipes and beams, and it may be dry when you inspect, but wet at certain times like during heavy rains. Try to identify when it might be dripping - see if it's damp or wet when it's raining hard, or when you've both finished showering. That might help you locate the source.

I hope it's easy to find. When I rented in Queens I was on the second floor of a two family and the landlord lived downstairs. He had been a contractor in his younger days and he was telling me how difficult it was to find a small leak we were trying to locate. It turned out that when snow and ice piled up on the flat roof it was leaking in a small opening halfway up the roof ledge, then dripping onto a beam, traveling halfway across the house on the beam, the it dropped onto the ceiling below, so be aware that the source of the leak can be some distance from where it's dripping.

Thanks, we did some investigating today, I ripped down all the damaged celing tiles, and was happy it rained so I could try to find something but I found nothing. My conclusion is that it is likely just condensation from heaters. Some of the stains were there when we bought it so I have a hard time deciphering which are new. I'll keep checking up on it before we redo our ceiling...

Do you have a poorly caulked tub above the stains? Or something along those lines?
