Any green thumbs out there? Perenials?
My mom has requested perennials for Mother's Day. I don't even know what that means! LOL Any recommendations? She has a shady yard with minimal full on sun exposure if that is important to know. TIA!

Actually, those she is inundated with. She actually gave me like 100 of them last year (and I don't think that's an exaggeration. LOL)

This is a great catalogue source for perennials : BLUESTONE
You can get great ideas for shade/part shade locations. In addition to hostas, I have fern and astillbe in my shady areas.

In addition to those:
Ferns: Wood, Japanese Painted, Ghost, Lady Heuchera Brunnera Variegated Japanese Forest Grass
eta: By the way, perennials means if they are winter "hardy" in our zone (7), they will come back next year. Annuals will die during our winters.

I planted some Columbines last year, and they have grown back beautifully this year.

Goto Bloomin Haus in Holtsville. They have 2 sections, separated by a road. One side is perennials, one is annuals. So you can't go wrong and get one confused with the other.

I like Hydrangeas (sp?) and I love Peonies. Daffodils and Tulips are perennial too. I just bought dianthus and I love them.

Re: Any green thumbs out there? Perenials?
I forgot about Columbine! Yes, they look great already and my first ones are blooming now, called "Clementine Blue":
They're different flowers than regular Columbines, they call them double blooms. Here's where I got them, with a picture in full bloom: http://www.bluestoneperennials.com/b/bp/AQCBS.html
I also have Tequila Sunrise that looks like the PP's pic above but it's orange and yellow.
