any FTWM on here exec assts & commute to Manhattan?

if so, how do you make your schedule work with your boss and your family?

my job is 10-6, i hardly get to leave on time and will only have an intern as support and am stressed about how to make this work or if its time to find a new job...i have a great relationship with my boss and have been with the company for 10 years but with the commute and unpredictable hours I am beyond stressed especially since I just found out today, with 3 weeks left on my maternity leave, that going back part time is no longer an option (my boss had been trying to make it work to job share with the person currently covering for me).

I now need to figure out the practicalities of going back to work full time.

any advice is more than appreciated?

I don't necessarily have to mirror my sked to my manager as you may have to, but when I returned to work, I changed my hours to 8-4. I make it a point to let people know I am available anytime from 8-4 (I work through lunch). And that is it, I leave at 4. I have my calendar blocked out so meetings can't be scheduled, and it I have a meeting that runs after 4, I politely excuse myself. I give my job 8 hours of my attention, but that is it. There aren't enough hours in the day for everything and that is all they get. It is really hard and I hate being away from DD for 12 hours (with commuting). Once DC #2 is born, I am done. Either PT or back to LI.

I changed my hours to 8:30-4:30, there are some days that I leave at 5 or later because of busy season. I am going to see if I can change my hours again so that I can leave at 4pm. The extra half hour makes a difference in commuting.
