Any experience with flat head at 9 months?

We just kept hoping it would correct itself but I feel like DD still has a flat head...

Can anyone recommend a PT or orthotist? I don't want her to have an alien-shaped head for the rest of her life.

eta: Orthotist as well. I have a rec from my ped but looking to get two opinions.

I went to a neurosurgeon for an opinion who recommended an orthotist in Westbury (that I didn't love). I went for a third opinion at Cranial Tech. DS ended up having a helmet (DOC band) for just a few months from there. I highly recommend them. There are other people on this board that have gone there as well if you search Cranial tech.

So happy I decided to suck it up for a few months & get the band. He had fast improvement and I never have to wonder if it would have helped. Feel free to FM if any questions.

I used Dr. Rami Grossman in NH Park and then used Bay Ortho - Mr. Anthony Kappa for helmet in westbury.

Cranial tech was an option but based only in NJ and having to get adjustments every other wk and me working FT was not going to work and the travel.

It was hard enough dealing with his appts and getting him in there as it was being based out of Nassau.


ETA: I got private PT but then got EI and he qualified. that was until he was 15mths old.
he started at 5 months old.

DS had torticolis and plagio- bad. he had to wear helmet.

We went to a ped neurologist first on the recommendation of our ped, Dr. Greg Rosen. He then referred us to Dr. Anthony Kappa at Bay Orthopedic (we saw him in the Huntington office). I thought both doctors were great and we saw a real improvement from the helmet.

My advice is to make the appts as soon as possible. You don't want to waste anymore time if your child needs a helmet.

We went to cranial tech. It's in NJ but felt it was best for our son because it's an open band & didn't want him to wear thefull helmet. They have to wear 23 hours a day & during summer can be rough. GO ASAP to get an opinion. The longer you wait, the longer they have to wear it. My son wore it for 10 weeks during his age of 7,8 & 9 months

My daughter had plagiocephaly and torticollis that caused a flat spot on her head. I went to get her evaluated at bay ortho at nine months. Tony Cappa advised me against a helmet. At one year I went back and demanded it. It definitely helped my daughter she wore it for six months. Still a mild flat spot but with her hair you can't tell. Some neuros and a lot of peds aren't fans of the helmet and will tell you it will round out on its own. I just wish that i would of demanded it at nine months the earlier the better. Everyone keeps telling me it will round out but she's been sitting up for a month and is only on her back for sleeping (and she sleeps on her side a lot).

there is a location in westbury - but I went to one in Syosset - i guess they moved since then...and Westbury is A LOT closer to me - oh well! lol

Under a year is when their heads are most pliable so the sooner you get one if needed the less she will have to wear one! My DD's was pretty flat and only had to wear it for 3 mo! It was a long three months (more for mommy than baby) but now she is 5.5 yrs old and I can barely remember those 3 months!
