Any Employers Out There? What Would You Do?
If you found a candidate that matched what you were looking for salary-wise, experience-wise, etc. BUT also had looked thru other resumes that were appealing to you, would you hire the first person that suited your needs or would you keep looking?
ETA: Assume the interview with this first person went very well. BUT, you haven't yet interviewed other people.

It depends entirely on how they all fared during their interviews.

Re: Any Employers Out There? What Would You Do?
I always like to interview more than one person.
How they are on paper can be very different from how they are in person.
Picking the first one you see can be dangerous if you have nothing to compare them to.

Re: Any Employers Out There? What Would You Do?
I'm not an employer but when I interviewed for this job I was the first candidate they interviewed. I had a great interview and they sent me for psychological testing (a requirement when working on our executive floor) the very next day, which also went well. They kept interviewing and I didn't get called back for 6 weeks!

In my company we always interview at least 3 people for each position.

Re: Any Employers Out There? What Would You Do?
see others just to be sure
but if you are really really in a bind, just hire them!
most of the time if you are set on the first person that walks in, you end up calling that person to be hired anyway

Re: Any Employers Out There? What Would You Do?
I would hire the first person that would suit our needs and fit in with our company as long as their references check out. If there were other appointments scheduled, I would keep them but I wouldn't keep looking. I think it's one of those things you kind of know.

I am suprised they are allowed to do that before hiring you.

They do. They wouldn't hire you if you didn't get a good report.

Re: Any Employers Out There? What Would You Do?
i always interview more than one. it just leaves your options open. for example, what if you needed to fill this position within the next 2 weeks or so and picked the first person that you interviewed. but you didnt realize that they were going on numerous interviews and end up getting a better offer from someone else after you make them the offer. then you're back to square one and have to start advertising and interviewing all over again.

Re: Any Employers Out There? What Would You Do?
I never hire the first person I interview. ALWAYS have 3 or 4 viable candidates, narrow it down to 2 and pick the best suited!

Re: Any Employers Out There? What Would You Do?
Thanks everyone.
I found out that I was indeed the first person that was interviewed but the response to my "thank you" sounded positive.
I feel better now.

Re: Any Employers Out There? What Would You Do?
I work in recruitment and usually there is a deadline for receipt of applications and we would consider all and every application that came through up to that cut off point. They would be scored against a robust criteria and then they would be scored against that Competency Based Criteria and then Assessment Centre, Tests, Role Plays, Interviews blah blah blah.
