any advice?
so... DS is 3 years, 4 months old. he's our only child, and I'm a SAHM. he goes to a nursery school 2 mornings a week.... so a total of 5 hours a week he's there. on the other day, I try my best to get him out, around other kids, etc. we do playdates, go to play areas, open gym gymnastics time, playgrounds, etc. BUT yesterday when I picked him up, his teacher said they've been having a little bit of a hard time with him. He just won't leave other kids alone. just poking them, grabbing them, touching them, etc. She said every time she feels like hes engaged in something and is ok, another kid comes up to her saying DS was bothering them. I believe she said he got time out several times yesterday :-/ I know part of it is age, and hes the youngest in the class so it could be a maturity thing, too. I also think it might be a boredom thing, too. the way the class is set up- theres a lot of free play time, while the teacher does a project with 1 or 2 kids at a time. the free play is good for social stuff.... but DS isn't really a play with toys kind of kid. hes VERY smart, and I think he likes things he has to think about. like we'll go to a restaurant, and instead of just driving a little truck or whatever around on the table, he'll take the placemat for kids and look at the little word search on there and say "mommy- what letters are in tractor?" and look for them in the word search. So he seems to like stuff that makes him think a little bit, rather than just playing with toys. I know he's only 3, but I want him to be able to get along with kids and have some more little friends to play with and stuff. I also know the teacher can't spend all her time putting DS in timeout, etc. anybody have any suggestions??

Re: any advice?
Has the behavior issue just started at school? Or is it just getting worse. Yes kids need time to mature and he might not be used to the environment of just playing and doing things on his own. Maybe see if the teacher can give him things to color or other things during the free time to help him along.
Remember he isn't there that much to catch onto the routine either. Good Luck he is only 3 afterall.

Re: any advice?
I would just wait it out...I think once you get into a 3yo program with more structure you might see a difference.
Talk to DS of course about being nice, keeping his hands to himself etc....
My son is 2yo (3 in april) and is sooo interested in "older" concepts, he can read about 20 sight words, wants to know how to spell words all the time etc. Its because of his older brother. He too doesnt just sit with toys much. its more building train tracks, playing a letter game on the kindle, playing board games etc....
I never signed either of my sons up for a 2yo program bc I felt like it was more of a playtime and they didnt need that. I felt the real benefits of nursery/preshool is when the add in the structure component, sitting during circle time, finding their chair, going over the calendar, doing their crafts etc.
ETA: at home when my son is bored...he looks for his brother and literally sits on him....he doesnt get how to engage him to play WITH him so he basically makes him pay attention to him by sitting on him. He has never done it with friends but its just a maturity thing....

Re: any advice?
thanks, guys! hes been going since September... so it also could just be that hes just now getting comfortable there and is testing the limits out LOL
I also should say that he was adopted from Korea about 19 months ago. I worked as a speech therapist before we adopted him... so when he came home, I probably went a little overboard on "24/7 speech therapy!! Let's teach him English!!" LOL so I did A LOT of one on one time with him- so I think he expects that from everybody now :-/
and you're probably right- he probably doesn't need this kind of program... but honestly being SAHM with no family in the area to watch him once in awhile... I think we both need the little break from each other for a few hours! HAHA I think i'll just wait it out hopefully when hes in their next class next year, it'll be a little more what he needs.

Re: any advice?
Could you bring something in for your DS to play with/do during free time? Something that is more mentally stimulating?
