Anti-Depressants while pregnant
I'm not pregnant yet but DH hope to start a family in the next year. I'm currently on Prozac and was hoping to hear experiences of women that stayed on it or other anti- depressants through their pregnancy, that got off anti-depressants before pregnancy, or any other thoughts that will help me make an educated decision on what to do with my body.
I am speaking with my OBGYN next week but wanted to hear from you ladies first.

Before i was ttc with my dd, I was on Zoloft for terrible anxiety and ocd. I spoke to my obgyn at the time and she recommended i wean myself off before trying to conceive. I was nervous just at the thought of this, but I did it. I was seeing a therapist at the time as well and continued seeing her. She taught me different techniques to deal with the ocd and anxiety. My dd is now 19 months old and i can happily report i have not been back on zoloft since. (not saying any kind of anti anxitey drue is a bad thing) trust me i know all to well how it is to be anxiety ridden, depressed etc you name it. My obgyn didnt want me on any drugs while pregnant. But that was her opinion your dr may be different and keep you on a minimal dose. Do what you think is best. Best of luck with everything in the long run you will be FINE

I was on Effexor before I got pregnant. I weaned off. I have my moments here and there but it's not as bad as I expected it to be. Just surround yourself with positive people as much as you can. :)

There are a gazillion theories out there...but here's an interesting take on the issue. Who knows if this study can be replicated or confirmed by others though....Definitely something to consider.

I took Wellbutrin for about 5 years before I got pregnant and Prozac before that. I have a long history with severe depression and was determined to stay on my medication while pregnant.
Unfortunately when I found out I was pregnant my psych refused to perscribe it anymore and my OB agreed. I was absolutely terrified to stop taking it! Now, 4 months later, I'm happy to say I'm doing just fine. There are some days when I feel the depression coming on, but I make myself go out and take a walk or do other things that make me happy. It's a lot easier, at least for me, than I thought it would be.
I am VERY concerned about post-partum though and am currently going back and forth about whether to breastfeed for that reason. I know the meds take a while to kick back in, so I don't know that I want to risk trying to go without it.

I was on Lexapro and Welbutrin during my whole pregnancy. My OB actually didnt not want me OFF of them...it wasnt worth the risk of me relapsing into another depression while preg.
My baby girl is 6 weeks old and doing just fine.

I was on Zoloft and my Dr wanted me to get off it right away once I found out I was pregnant, I know those drugs can cause problems with the baby and birth defects!

i had them start with low dosage every day for a month, then went to every other day, and eventually just stopped. i had one really bad week but I managed in therapy.
i tell you though, effexor was the best for me, seroquel was the worst drug i was on. prozac was good but it gave me weight gain and then my insurance stopped covering it so i needed to switch.

I appreciate all of your responses (and am responding to all the FMs soon!). Its actually what I think I'm scared most of for pregnancy right now b/c I just don't know how I will feel coming off the meds. Its so good to hear that so many of you were on them before conceiving and were weened off and are fine today. Obviously DH and I are going to do as much research as we can AND make sure my doctors are in agreement with everything before we make a decision but its something I have to start thinking about today.
