ANOTHER tax credit question
So, we closed on 4/19/10 I sent my acct the HUD paperwork, she sent it in Thursday 4/22/10 to the IRS. She filled out the 1040X. so, realistically how long am I going to be waiting for this $8000. I would LOVE some new furniture and don't want to charge it. Anyone have hope for me?
TIA

Re: ANOTHER tax credit question
We bought our house this year and filed our taxes in early March. We sent in an amendment to our return the next day to get our $8000. Still waiting. It's been 2 and a half months.

Re: ANOTHER tax credit question
From the IRS web site:
"The normal processing time for amended returns is approximately 8-12 weeks. Recent changes to the tax law have resulted and will continue to result in larger than normal volumes of amended returns. This increased volume has increased our processing time to 12-16 weeks. It is not necessary for you to follow-up with the IRS regarding your amended return if you are within these time frames. "
UGGHHHH. So it can take up to 4 months!

Re: ANOTHER tax credit question
amended returns can take a lot longer then originally filed returns. the irs is stating that original returns filed asking for the credit on average takes 3 months. but they don't say for amended.
I sent my original end of march and I got the $ I think 5 weeks later. but amended could take a lot longer sorry.
keep checking on it though. go to IRS.gov click on wheres my refund
you will need the primary filers ss# usually your DH's you need to know if you filed married filing jointly, or married filing single, and you will need to know the exact refund amount due. then it will give you the status of it. if they say its being processed and not to check back for at least another week, you don't have to listen to them. check back as often as you want. it will tell you when your check is going to be mailed.

Ours was ammened. So, when I check the site it says we should have gotten our refund. (which we did, just not the $8000 credit)

Re: ANOTHER tax credit question
After all my whining yesterday, I got a letter in the mail from the IRS today! My $8K is being deposited within two weeks!
If I'm remembering correctly, it took 10 weeks to get this letter (from the time I sent in my amended return).

Re: ANOTHER tax credit question
do you enter in the amount of your refund ie: 8000 (in my case 6500)? or that amount PLUS the original file amount? assuming that was 1500 + 6500 = 8000 is that what i would enter?

Re: ANOTHER tax credit question
I went after my closing on Thursday.. They said 12-14weeks
Also they are sending back some of the requests for further info. At least two forms of verification of the new address and the mortgage recap.
So we're sending 5 forms of proof as soon as we get our driver's licenses (just to be safe) and the HUD and our mortgage recap, plus the amendment.
Still they say 12-14weeks baring any new changes/requirements that may come up.
