another spinoff to solids.....

So we started giving DD oatmeal in the morning at 5 months. Some days she loves it and will eat a teaspoon or a bit more...other days she has a couple of spoon fulls if that and is done.

We moved on to sweet potatoes (which she hated! She gagged and refused to open her mouth) and then tried carrots. She still was not that huge of a fan of those. Will try squash tomorrow then move on to a couple of fruits before green veggies (thanks to reading another solids post!)

So my question is when do they actually take in more than a few bites?! I have those gerber organic little containers and so much goes to waste because she only take a few bites within the 3 day trial period. When do they actually start eating most of it? Maybe she will once she reaches the fruit....but I am so clueless on this solids thing!

And after trying fruit for a few days did you then mix it with oatmeal? Did you mix veggies with oatmeal at all? I currently use BM for the oatmeal...do you use it to mix with oatmeal and fruit as well?

Any first solids help would be great!!!

It sounds like she may not be ready yet. I would take a break from it for a few weeks and then try it again. Both my boys would eat bowlfuls of oatmeal when we first started. I think it all depends on readiness. You could also play around with the thickness. Try using more or less BM to thin or thicken the oatmeal and see if that makes a difference. You may also want to try making your own babyfood from fresh fruits/veggies at least in the beginning, so you can control how much is made at a time and have less waste.
You can mix fruits and veggies with oatmeal- I often did that. Once she has passed the 3/4 day wait rule with any food, you can mix it with others that she has already had. HTH!

Thanks! I have tried making it a bit thicker and she did not like that at all. When I made it more watery she liked it much better. I think I have to catch her at the right time after a bottle when she is hungry enough to eat more. Some days she's into it and others ehh. I am going to keep trying and if she isn't digging it I won't force her to try more.

My DS ate a lot from the get go. If she is not liking anything and not really eating I would wait.
