Another registry question...

Ok, this sounds dumb, but how the heck do you start this process?

Like, I have NO clue what a baby's necessities are. NO CLUE. This is our first - and we have no nieces or nephews yet - so we literally have NO CLUE!!!

Is there a checklist or something I can get?!

Babies R Us will give you a check list if you register there.

Re: Another registry question...

I'm bringing a friend that her baby just turned 1 in addition to the list BRU will give you.

Re: Another registry question...

There is a checklist on the BRU website too.
I also went by what Baby Bargains recommended. Because you don't need everything onthe list that you get from the stores.

Re: Another registry question...

I ended up taking my mom with me. Between the 2 of us, we figured most of it out.

The good thing is that with most places, you can continue to add items online!

Re: Another registry question...

yeah... there are plenty of lists out there, but somehow i still find myself unsettled about what i need. i feel like i MUST need all these things that i don't have. i think it's just another way that baby anxiety manifests!

i would just look at the lists from BRU and baby bargains and then register for what you personally think you need. also consult with family and friends about what they think you need.

but in the end - and this is what i keep telling myself - none of us live in siberia. if you don't have something when you give birth and it turns out you need it, someone will be able to go get it for you ASAP.

That is great advice! I didn't follow any lists and just went w/ my gut.

Re: Another registry question...

I can't say that I was clueless about it because I'm a freak about these things and I've done plenty of research, but what really helped me was the BRU list with the Baby Bargains book. That book gives a practical approach to registering, and it helped me narrow down what I really needed.

You should probably do it in stages... go and start with the big stuff like the stroller and car seat -- stuff you KNOW you'll need -- and then go back and add more. Plus you can always add things online.

I agree with previous posters. Research before you go on the big stuff like strollers, car seats, high chairs, etc. I loved the Baby Bargains book also. You also scan stuff and then go home and check the reviews on BRU, Amazon, etc. I think if you bring a friend that had a baby recently is also wonderful. They have many things there to get you sucked in that you really don't need!

I was going to say the same thing. Do you have a sibling or a close friend who has had a baby? Both of my sisters came with me and helped me also.

Re: Another registry question...

I started with Baby Bargins but also had an idea of what products I liked & disliked because of friends and family.

Why dont you start your registry and then post it here.

I'm sure the girls would be happy to give you feedback on any products your missing/dont need or have bad reviews. I know I would.Chat Icon

Re: Another registry question...

I registered at BRU first and did like the list, but Buy Buy Baby gives you a list for the layette with suggested numbers for items like onesies, blankets, sheets, etc. I know I need this stuff, but wasn't really sure how many of each to register for and the BBB list helped with that.
