Another Prego layed off
i knew i wasnt exempt from it but still i wasnt expecting it either since im due in april. My boss said "is there anything i can do?" I just looked at her and looked at my belly and said yeah pay me until i was suppot to be done with maternity leave. so far this year sux.
sorry to be a downer. they let go like 30 people yesterday and i have a feeling this was just the first round of layoffs!!!!!
sorry just had to vent this blows
who the hell is going to hire me now? im starting my 8th month.

Can you collect disability even if you have been laid off if you have a baby?

good question ill have to find out monday when i apply for unemployment if i can also collect disabiltiy once i give birth.
yes i did get severence thank god. that will cover us right until the baby comes along. however i was the one who had all the benefits so my unemployment will go to cobra for my benifits.

that is really awful. i know cobra can be pretty expensive. i wonder if you would be able to get free health insurance from the government since you will be having a child.

I'm so sorry to hear about your lay off. I was layed off on Nov. 21st while I was 8 months pregnant after being at my job for 12 years, not to mention I was a high risk pregnancy. They gave me a descent severance package, but I still wished they waited until I was on maternity leave. I filed for unemployment and when they sent a notice that I had to go to this workforce class, I was already 9 months pregnant with 2 weeks to go before my c-section. I waddled to the unemployment office to let them know my situation and the woman that I spoke to said that I can collect disability then after the 8 weeks of disability I can go back and collect unemployment. I called unemployment and they gave me the friggin run around. I said screw trying to do the right thing and I'm just collecting my unemployment.

I was laid off last March...2 weeks before my due date. At first I was devastated but it turned into a blessing in disguise. It stinks I don't have a good job to go back to but my son is 10 months old and i'm still home with him!!

I feel your pain, I was layed off at the end of December but the company rehired me (the downsizing was so demoralizing people are quitting - can't wait to go back to a place people are running from, but you take what you get). I hear rumors that the company may be at it again and this job is anything but stable, so I could be in your position before I give birth. They rehired me not knowing I'm expecting again, I'll tell next week. Find out about the disability thing. I wish I had more advice.

I am pretty sure you can get disability as long as your employer let you go. My friend is having the opposite problem in NY (she is medically disabled due to surgery) and her b itch of a boss lied and said she quit  They told her she would definately be eligible if her boss said she let her go instead.
