Another pediatrician question
I am starting to think about pediatricians and have 2 questions.
1- Does anyone care whether their ped is male or female? I've never cared about the sex of my doctor before, but today I suddenly wondered if I should get a female since I am having a little girl. Pediatricians can stay with a child through those growing years and I wondered if as my DD got older she might feel more comfortable dealing with development issues with a woman.
2-Right now I live in Manhattan but we are looking to move within 6 mths of DD being born...depending on how quickly our current apt sells and we can close on a house. Would you look for a ped in Manhattan or near where we plan on moving? I am delivering at Mt Sinai in Manhattan if that affects your answer.
TIA!!!

Re: Another pediatrician question
my peds has female and male docs. My neice goes to the same office and now at 7 years old.. shes starting to get uncomfortable with a male doc b/c she has to get undressed sometimes. My sis is going to start to request a female for her.

Re: Another pediatrician question
I picked a male pediatrician for my baby girl, and now am starting to rethink that. My niece (who is 16 now) is very comfortable with her doc (female) and has no problems discussing her period and other questions about her body. The male dr. I picked is a friend of a friend and very experienced.... but I am afraid of how my daughter will feel with him when she gets a little older.

Re: Another pediatrician question
I always had a male doc as a child. I still have male docs. I prefer male docs over female docs. I am rather uncomfortable with female docs doing personal exams on me.
As far as worrying how my daughter will feel about herself with a male doc, I cannot worry. The practice I chose has males and females. She will have no choice but to get used to all of them because if there is an emergency, she may just have to see a male whether in the office or in an emergency room.
