Another Godparent Spinoff - Q for Jewish mamas
Do Jews have godparents? I can't get a clear answer anywhere.
If we do... who did you pick, and how?

No, not traditionally.
But you can always do whatever you want.
My understanding was always that g-dparents are there to instill christian values in the children. But I do think it's a wonderful tradition and would love to have that sort of support system if DH wants. I don't know if he wants to have our LO baptized or anything.

many people have adopted the concept and give people an honor either during the bris or naming ceremony, but the honor does not extend beyond the ceremony. there are no religious requirements toward the child.
you can choose anyone.
for a bris, you can have them be the shadkan (male) or shadkanit (female) and help hold the baby down during the actual circumcision.
