Another daycare question
For those of you whose children go to daycare, if they suspect your child has a fever, do they take the temperature at the daycare and what way? The other day they took my sons temperature rectally and I was really angry. My husband says I am overreacting. Any thoughts on this?

Yes, they do take rectal temps. Their policy is 100.5 or higher the child must go home. I think they were looking out for your sons and everyone elses health is all. Why did it make you angry?

Honestly, I have never heard of a daycare taking a child's temperature rectally.
I am a preschool teacher and have always used the forehead strips, for babies and preschoolers.
I think I would also be upset if they took my babies temp rectally to be honest. I am not sure of the exact policies and laws but I have NEVER heard of this before.
I truly hope that they are extremely sanitary also. I would definately be angry!

My daycare takes a rectal temp., but I provided the thermometer.

My Daycare takes temps under the armpit than add's 1 point to the temp. Anything over 101, i get a call.

We take it via the forehead. The only time we have taken a rectal temp is when the child is very young and the parents provide the thermometer and give consent.

My girls go to Tutor Time and they take under the arm. I don't think they are allowed to take it rectally.

Thanks for posting this - I never thought to ask. I asked today and they take it under the arm. I'd want to be advised if their policy was to do it rectally - I might be OK with it as long as I knew ahead of time that that's how they do it.
