most companies put in their contribution at the same time you do. smaller companies sometimes make a yearly match.

just remember that each employer offers a different vesting schedule. my last 401k, you were 100% vested from day one. my current employer has it that you're 100% vested on your first anniversary.

over all, if they included California where head quarters is based and other states we are thousands of employees

If they just count us as a newer division we are 30-50

Employee contribution is done every paycheck. Employer contribution is done once a year in the September following the end of the year (i.e. we will get our 2016 employer contribution in September 2017).

Re: another 401K question, when does your co contribute

We do it once a year. I have to do it by September, but if I'm comfortable earlier, like this year, I did it in May.
I've considered doing it weekly but sometimes we need to hold on to more money (usually in the first quarter).
We're only 19 people right now.

each pay check. they match dollar for dollar up to 6%, then there is some discretionary bonus at the end of the year.

In my old firm, employee contributions were made every paycheck. Employer match was done as a lump sum once a year in March, and you had to be an employee for the entire calendar year in order to get that payment. So if you left the job on December 30, you got nothing.
