Annoyed with a bill!
I got a bill in the mail today for almost 800 from a lab. Turns on ghi doesnt use this lab and I have to pay 200 out of the 800. This test was done in Sept. and I just got a bill now! They said I need to call the dr. since they didn't send it to quest but sent it to lab corp.
Has this happened to anyone? I really dont have 200 to pay right now and I shouldnt have to. Naturally the dr. off is closed now!

Yes, call you dr. This happened with DH not that long ago. At first they said it was our fault for not updating our insurance information, but once we showed that it was a mess up on their end they apologized and took care of it.
I had to call them again today bc I got a bill for 675.40  Turned out he sent my bloodwork to my old insurance company that I haven't used in 2 years!!!!
I love my dr but his office staff have made many scheduling and insurance mistakes!

This is the same insurance I have had for 8 years. Nothing has changed. It's so annoying!

The office staff should know which labs take which insurance programs. You are right, Quest takes GHI and not Lab corp..

I got the same bill for ghi! I'm trying to get the courage to call the doctor and tell them to pay the deductible.

I have GHI. Last year, PG with #3, I got billed from the lab $4000. They said insurance didn't pay them anything and that I owe them. It was testing for things like SMA, Fragile X, etc.
I spoke with insurance. They said they were not a participating lab and they don't cover out of network.
I spoke with my OB. He noted the lab to use in the future, but couldn't help me on the bill. Obviously.
I then called the lab. I said that there was no way I could pay $4000!! I kindly asked if they could rebill insurance, noting that as the insurance holder, I had no choice in where my OB sent this lab work to be process. They said they would rebill and keep note in my file, but if insurance didn't pay them anything again, they would reduce the rates and bill me reasonable and customary.
Well, some time passed and I never heard anything. Then I get my Explanation of Benefits from the insurance company saying they paid the lab. Finally! All I had to pay was the $40 copay to the lab.
So...... Call the lab and have them rebill insurance using a different code. Ask them about it, they will know! Good Luck!

Ugh. I'm about to go to a Quest lab on Friday and I have GHI also....I don't want to get a crazy bill! Can I ask the lab before they do the tests? Thanks for the heads up!

Her issue was they didn't send it to Quest...so you are fine going there!!!
