Ancestry DNA
Has anyone tried this? I'm wondering if it's worth it, like what kind of information do you get, and is your personal information derived from that test private?

Re: Ancestry DNA
I would never do it. To send my DNA off to a random company, no thank you. I have read they can and do use your information, to come up with different profiles for races, nationalities, etc. It's too creepy to me.

Re: Ancestry DNA
I did it and was very happy with results. Answered a couple questions about great grandparents on my moms side.
My Sister did it and so did my nephew. I got alerted that they found a sibling and close relative thru DNA. I also had a few 2nd and 3rd cousins listed immediately after they got my results.
I thought it was very cool. I know people who are adopted do this in hopes to find blood relatives

Re: Ancestry DNA
My father did it and it answered life long questions for him. He is adopted and did not know his heritage. It was very enlightening. He is incredibly happy to have done it and to have the answers.

Ancestry DNA
I just sent mine over to be analyzed a week ago... still waiting on results. Should be quite interesting since I know I'm at least 4 diff nationalities. My mom did it and was surprised at the results. All European which made sense but she was convinced she was 100% Italian. I don't think anyone is 100% anything anymore. Would be even cooler to be linked up to unknown relatives!

Re: Ancestry DNA
I didn't, but both my parents did. It was very interesting. It did give some medical info which is great to know, as well as the heritage info.

Re: Ancestry DNA
My nephew did it. He found a adopted cousin that we have no clue about, probably from an affair that was placed for adoption.
I have the package and just keep forgetting to send it in.

I sort of feel ambivalent. Interesting how you can find out so much about your lineage, but I don't like that they use your information...
