Yes - I would be a little ticked

especially if it was my house - cause I don't have the biggest kitchen Chat Icon

Re: Am I wrong for being annoyed?

I'd be LIVID. DH would be on the phone with his family explaining why this is a problem.

That's very rude of them to expect to come to your house a day early with no warning AND to expect to use the kitch for the stuff they were supposed to make at home.

It might be fun, though, and hopefully you can all work around each other in the kitchen and enjoy each other's company. Chat Icon

Re: Am I wrong for being annoyed?

I think you may be overreacting a little - it could be fun for everyone to cook and prepare together.

BUT if it's an issue of timing, becuase the oven will be in use all day for a turkey etc. can you call and ask them to prepare the stuff at home so it just has to be reheated because the oven won't be available?

Goood Luck, I hope everything goes smoothly Chat Icon

I would 100% be annoyed. That takes some set to tell you they are coming to stay over and give you 1 days notice and then to use your kitchen. I would not let them use your stuff. tell them you need it to make what your making and there is no extra

I'd be mad too! You have enough stuff to prepare for the meal without having them in the way preparing the things they were supposed to bring. It would be one thing if they were coming early to help you prepare the meal but this is too much!

ditto

i'm such a territorial biitch with my kitchen....i don't like letting ppl come in and take it over. sorry but that is just plain rude IMO. i know some ppl might think its fun and such--but i don't. maybe i'm weird like that, but it also would make me feel like i'm being a bad hostess. if you come to my house to celebarte, you shouldn't have to do ANYTHING in the kitchen--that is my job that day, not yours. you are a guest!

Re: Am I wrong for being annoyed?

I would be annoyed, especially since I wasn't getting much warning about their plans. And it sounds like they didn't exactly ask you if it was okay, but rather told you that's what they're going to do. I hate it when people do that.

But on the other hand, I might try to be understanding about the kitchen sharing - if they're going to be staying with you the day before and driving 2-3 hours to get there, it's not like they're in their own house 5 minutes away and can bring over food already prepared right at dinner time. How else would they make the dishes they're supposed to be bringing?

I'm traveling 5 hours to MD for Thanksgiving - we didn't offer to bring anything we couldn't travel with. Assuming you can do more than assemble / heat it up in their kitchen on Thanksgiving day without asking ahead of time is really ballsy IMHO.

I can't imagine even having a free oven -- and I have a double oven, a microwave, plus a huge toaster oven that doubles as a convection oven...

I'm sure you were stressed enough hosting the holiday but having the extra burden of housing people the day before AND then worrying about them tying up your stove/kitchen is too muchChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Am I wrong for being annoyed?

I would be very upset and have DH explain that they need to bring what ever they agreed to do ahead of time/that the kitchen is off limits. If they want food before the holiday they can have tunafish or something easy/fast to make.
ETA: If the food needed heating up or last minute prep from storage to serving dish that is an entirely different thing, but to make from scratch - heck I can do that myself. I don't need someone to bring the dry ingredients.

i would absolutely be annoyed!!! i would have DH call and explain that cooking their stuff in your house is not an option and request that they make their stuff a day ahead and store it in your fridge or something.

Re: Am I wrong for being annoyed?

I'd be furious. No one uses my kitchen but me, especially, at holiday time. I'd let them both know (in a polite way, of course) that there won't be enough time or room for all three of you in the kitchen and, since you are hosting, you REALLY need the kitchen for yourself.
