Am I too late for CIO?

Erin is 10 months old and can NOT put herself to sleep. At all! She either has to fall asleep drinking a bottle or on us. She wakes several times a night, about every 2 hours or so. Sometimes I will feed her if it is at about the 4 hour mark from when she last ate but I'm trying to cut out that middle of the night feeding too. I am AT my wits end with it. I've been very lenient with her because she had such issues early on, and still does, but she needs to get on board with what she should be doing by now.

Is she too old for CIO? Do I have to do something else? Please help before I lose my mind!

TIA!

Re: Am I too late for CIO?

DS needs the vacuum on to fall asleep. Chat Icon It's annoying, but we can just put him down and he falls asleep immediately with the vacuum. You could try that. (we then turn the vac. off 10 mins later)

Re: Am I too late for CIO?

Nope, IMO your DD is not too old for CIO. We originally did CIO with our DS when he was almost 7 months, then had to do it again when he was 14 months because his sleeping got all out of whack when he was sick.

I'm not going to lie... it's hard, but within a few nights she will get it and learn to fall asleep on her own. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

not too old for CIO i don't think! it's just hard-hard at any age but it can be effective! you have to stick to it and be consistent though. good luck! i know a lot of moms on here have used other methods that might help you. i only have done CIO so that's all i know!Chat Icon

Re: Am I too late for CIO?

Definitely not too late.

She doesn't need to eat twice a night, probably not even the 1 time.

What i did was gradually reduce the ounces in my sons bottle at night until he got down to 2 ounces. Then i let him CIO. This way i didn't feel like i was starving him, KWIM? Less guilt i suppose. Chat Icon

At this point in the game, she's waking out of habit and eating then out of habit. Chat Icon

DS is the SAME way. Try white noise in the room. A wave machine, fan, etc.

i don't think so, i'd go for it...

i had to CIO several times with DD#1 whenever she got off schedule for a longer period of time. DD#2 is 15 months now and i hardly ever have to have her CIO, i still rock her to sleep, but she's out like a light within 3-5 minutes of putting her head on my shoulder. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

We tried CIO earlier, but we weren't successful until DS was one and fully off formula. I did feel he needed his middle of the night feedings, so I was stuck with that

But no, she isn't too oldChat Icon Chat Icon

we let DS CIO when he was over 11 months bc he would not sleep on his own. I fig. I better do it now before he is able to jump out of the crib. we still give him a bottle (17 months) if he wakes up tho. I feel bad leaving him hungry/thirsty during the night.

Re: Am I too late for CIO?

We did it somewhere around 10 months. He didn't cry too much though. He played his music toy to sleep. We had to do CIO again after he turned 2 and get into a bad sleep habit. The older one was much harder.

Not at all! We did it at 6 months and then again at 20 months with DS. The older they are the longer it can take though so you have to be patient. I really recommend reading Dr. Ferber's book (Solve your Child's Sleep Problems) before you do it. I would actually sit there and reread while we were listening to him cry because it really explains why you are doing what you are doing and how it is going to help your child.
