Alpine Bakery

I am in the minority in the sense I have never gone here. The restaurant where we are having Mia's baptism gets their occassion cake from Alpine. How are their occassion cakes in terms of taste?

Re: Alpine Bakery

I've lived in the area for 12 years and I've used Alpine on occasion and imho they are just ok. The occasions cakes I have seen are nice to look at but the cake itself is, as I said, ok. I feel the same way about their pastry, nothing special.

There was a bakery in Commack, that just changed hands, called Dolce Vita (owned by the people that own Casa Rustica) that was much better. Torta Fina in Commack is also much better. For very special occasions I use Cardinali's in Syosset. I just don't think they can be beat.

Re: Alpine Bakery

Bri, they're good. Just $ and they have an attitude! Are you doing La Famiglia? You get 10% off.

I posted my most recent alpine experience here .

Re: Alpine Bakery

The restaurant we are having the dinner at charges 2 dollars per person for the cake from alpine or 1 dollar per person to serve a cake we bring in.

Re: Alpine Bakery

they are worth every cent!!!!!! they are down the street from my house and before that I would drive 15 minutes out of my way to go to them.

We ordered our wedding cake from them too and it was FANTASTIC!

Re: Alpine Bakery

They are good, but not worth $2/pp in my opinion. If you can bring in your own cake I'd go to The Rolling Pin in Setauket or Garguillo (sp?) in St. James. Both blow Alpine away!

I won't eat anything from Alpine after getting Italian bread that was moldy and 2 pies with moldy bottoms all on different occasions. They obviously don't check their inventory very well or have an established system for removing old food that works.

Re: Alpine Bakery

My best friend had her shower this past Sunday and I asked where they got the cake because it was so good, and they told me Alpine.

Re: Alpine Bakery

I say they are hit or miss. When their stuff is good it is very good, but I've had some not so good experiences with them.

We got a cake from their display one day and it tasted like window cleaner (they must have cleaned the displays with the cakes still in there)

We also got the wrong order once when I called they said to bring it back and we would get the right order because the person who got ours came back and returned it. Once food leaves the store it should not be given to someone esle. It should have been thrown out.

But as I said we've had some great food from there too.
