almost 7 month old.. afraid of "strangers"....
and I put "strangers" in quotes... because its her grandfather!!! DD hasnt seen her grandfather my DH's father, in about 2-3 weeks, and she started wailing when he walked in yesterday! I felt horrible, as I am sure he did as well! is there any way to approach this? How do you make them more comfortable? It was the first time I have ever seen her like this, and I was so sad for him... I dont want it to happen again! Is their anything to do?!?!?!?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Re: almost 7 month old.. afraid of "strangers"....
My DD went through the same thing at that age. I found she was hesitant with anyone she didn't see on a daily basis, including family. I use to hold her but stand near the person she was "afraid" of so they could interact. After a few minutes she would warm up and be fine. Don't force her to go to someone, let her warm up and get comfortable in her own time. I know that makes some people upset but their are babies, they are not doing it to be mean.

Re: almost 7 month old.. afraid of "strangers"....
My DS is 7.5 months and is going through the same thing. My sister sees him every week or so and when she came this weekend he wouldnt stop crying and grabbing onto me. If I left the room after about 5 minutes he calmed down but I couldn't be within his view or else the crying would start again. My MIL watches him in the morning until the babysitter comes and even though he sees the babysitter 5 days a week he starts cryiing when she comes to get him now and I dont know why since he sees her so often. Must be the age.

7 months is typically when stranger anxiety develops, so the behavior is completely normal and you shouldn't feel bad! Can her grandpa visit more frequently so she gets used to seeing him more?

DS acts the same way with his grandmother. (Dh's mother) Ever since he was about 6 months old the minute he sees her he cries histerically!!!! I feel so bad for her. The last time he saw her it wasn't too bad, he only cried for a few seconds. I just think she's too loud with him. He doesn't usually have a problem with anyone else. Sometimes sudden loudness may startle kids.
