Almost 5yo grinding teeth in sleep

Has anyone dealt with this? My almost 5yo DS grinds his teeth so bad in his sleep, to the point where I can see it affecting his front teeth. I plan on calling the dentist when they open, but I'm curious to hear if anyone else had this issue. How did they handle it? Do they allow a 4/5yo to wear a mouth guard? TIA!!

Mine grinds.
When he gets permanent teeth, he will be fitted for a mouth guard if he's still at it (says the dentist).

Has it damaged his teeth at all? I think that's my biggest concern. His front teeth are becoming a little chipped. Chat Icon

My 2.5 year old DD does this.... And so do I! Pretty much my whole life. I never had any dental issues because of it, but I've discussed it with my daughter's pediatrician and we're going to keep an eye on it in case she does down the road.

My 6 year old does this and I asked the dentist about it. They said its normal and his teeth are fine, he still has all his baby teeth though.

Thanks ladies! I spoke to his ped and dentist and they both confirmed that there's nothing we can do. He still has all of his baby teeth, so I guess we'll pursue a mouth guard if he continues to do it when he has adult teeth.
