Allimentum and milk allergies?

My daughter has been on allimentum since the second day she was born since she reacted badly to regular formula (rash, welts) and now since she's 6 months, the doctor recommended we try to introduce baby yogurt. I decided to try a jar food today that contained milk and hours later she threw up a lot. I'm guessing it was the oatmeal and apple jar food that contained milk since that was the only new food. I'm hoping she isn't going to have a milk allergy and will call the doctor tomorrow.

I guess my question is, has anyone whose baby was/is on allimentum have a milk allergy also?

Thanks so much! Chat Icon

Re: Allimentum and milk allergies?

Alimentum is for a milk protein allergy. Yogurt is made different and a lot of milk protein allergy babies can tolerate it.. Wait a few weeks and try baby yogurt. Your daughter apparently has a milk protein allergy that is why she had the bad reaction to formula.. Most babies outgrow it by a year old. My son had a SEVERE MPA and soy allergy. He outgrew the milk allergy by 15 months and unfortunately he is still allergic to soy.

Yes, my DS couldn't eat yogurt/oatmeal/anything with milk protein in it due to his severe milk protein allergy. Some babies are worse than others. My DS would break out and spit up foods with the milk protein in it.
I found that a lot of the baby food that has oatmeal or rice, any type of "mixture", he had a bad reaction to.
He grew out of the milk protein allergy around 1 year old.

My DS was on Alimentum and his 1 year bloodwork confirmed that he had a milk allergy, not severe though. It is weird because he can eat yogurt with no problem, but when we tried giving him whole milk in his bottle he threw it up everywhere. We went to see an allergist and he recommended soy milk, so that is what we have been using so far.

I breast fed, but my DD had a milk allergy. It's common and most outgrow it by 1. My DD outgrew it by 15 months. I cut milk from my diet and didn't give dairy until DD turned 1, since she still reacted, we took her to an allergist who said the allergy was mild and to keep exposing her to dairy in small amounts, and by 15 months she was drinking milk with no problems.
