What allergy medicine do you give your kids? Any pros/cons/side effects? I've been giving Claritin but I don't think it's working.

Re: Allergy Meds

Xyzal allergy
It's finally over the counter. DS's allergist used to prescribe it bc it worked so much better than the other children allergy meds. We found out now it's over the counter and is the same exact thing he was prescribed so use that. We also Nasacort in addition to the liquid medicine.
His allergies are still bad, but this definitely helps a lot.

My dd has been on Claritin for about 2 weeks now and at first I didn't think it was working but now she's doing a lot better... maybe takes some time to kick in? Dh and I take store brand Zyrtec and it's def helped us.

I started with Benadryl. It works beautifully but wears off before end of school (and miserable son ends up in nurse office).

Trying Claritin today.

Re: Allergy Meds

We use cvs brand of Zyrtec, only because it's the only one i can find that comes in grape flavor (she won't take any other flavor, including mixed berry), and I think it works well.
