allergies and your heating/cooling system

hi all.

im just curious. for those who have allergies, did you opt for central air and a hepa system?

im trying to figure out whats best, whats really worth the money, and whats necessary.

i also dont know all of the various options that are out there. i just know that central air would help me breathe better during spring/summer, and baseboard kills my nose and sinuses in the winter, even though i keep my heat low.

any opinions would be great.

Re: allergies and your heating/cooling system

My old CAC system with an air filter worked really well for my allergies. I get spring allergies and to get relief inside, I had to keep my windows closed and my CAC on even during the late April/early May months when the temperature outside was in the 50s-60s.

If I was able to keep the pollen out of the house with the CAC running inside, i felt fine.

I have hot water baseboard. If I am running the heat i have my windows closed anyways so my allergies are fine.

It's when its a spring like day that doesn't require heat or air, just open windows. That's where I get screwed.

Thats why I run my CAC 8 months out of the year.
