Your DH sounds like mine. He insists that at her age, 3, it would be a waste of money because she's too young to remember it. I agree, to some extent, but I know that while she is there she would LOVE it!! She's a Mickey, Minnie, and Disney Princesses fanatic!! Chat Icon

We have compromised though. The plan is Disney in 2013, when our DD turns 5. It will be her birthday present! I already can't wait!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

That's a good compromise. Dh says the same thing she won't remember. But my argument is he doesn't remember anything either but he still did things and that is what pictures and story telling is for. I would love to see her face. All well maybe next year Chat Icon

My DH says the same! I am optimistic in thinking that we will go more than once so I don't think she needs to remember her first time - I think it is important that she be old enough to enjoy herself in the moment....I've been working on DH since I found out I was pregnant (DD is 6 mo) LOL

Re: All these Disney posts..........................

My DH and I had the discussion about taking our DD to Disney at 16 months. We both realized that she wouldn't remember much.

However, DH attends a conference each year in Orlando and we had family that was coming down with their 3yr old DD, so we figured "why not"? Additionally, we are two big kids and total Disney fans.

We had a great time and so did our DD. I wrote on a different thread that she she was great being out all day at the parks and she really was. I tried to keep her schedule the same. When it was time for her nap, I would walk to a quiet spot to allow her to fall asleep (which took less than 5 mins). Her napping didn't interfere with activities - we would still stroll through the park and we'd take turns doing things.

She loved, loved the characters. We did a character breakfast and lunch and she would snuggle up to each character. I have a TON of pictures to remind me of the great time we had.

I'm glad that we did it. Since DH goes to his conference each year, I don't doubt that we'll stop by the parks.

It really is a personal choice - I have plenty of friends who wait until their children are old enough to remember. It's quite an expense too!!! Part of the reason why we went now - DD is free. We got to enjoy time with our family too, which was part of our decision making as well. We also have a timeshare, so that helps with expenses.

Re: All these Disney posts..........................

We took DS when he was 22 months...my thoughts were he was free...we didn't book him a plane ticket, he had free admission to the parks we rarely even bought him meals as he ate off our plates. But those memories are all mine. He won't remember it (but he does talk about going when he was 3 in Dec 2010) but those are memories I will never forget. And at that age, it was a relaxing vacation. When they get older and want to see this character and go on that ride, its never quite a relaxing again.

We had such a good time when DS was 22 months we went back at 35.5 months and honestly, the first trip was better.

PS I am no help BC I am super close to booking a Disney trip and our DS are 4 & 1. But all the posts and emails I keep getting are too much temptation!

Re: All these Disney posts..........................

AJ was 3 and two months when we took her.. she LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED IT!

I'm so glad I waited until she was 3. Sure I did lie and say she turned three when we got there but Chat Icon they are free until 3.

She loved getting the signatures and meeting the characters, waited in line and (as only my child will do) fell asleep listening to the drums in Japan (Epcot). Watched them make candy sculptures in Japan and the pearl part there was a HUGE hit, she didn't want to leave!

She officially believes Deesneey Werild (as she says it) is "my Castol" haha

Its all about the Castle to her and she loved Magic Kindgom. Animal Kingdom she could have done without but she liked their little kid area they had, digging in sand and doing the big slides. She saw the big light water show at Hollywood studios and was spell bound.

She still says "Member mama, Mickey?" yes darling.. I remember.

We have videos and pictures, even got the picture album. Yeah, we are super glad she went at 3. Potty trained, and stayed up to MIDNIGHT at Magic Kingdom one night! hahaha

Remembers it all, loved it and wants to go back.

Best Decision EVER!

Sounds like a really nice trip!! So cute, "my castol". Chat Icon I know Emerson would LOOOOVE it too!!! She lives and breathes Disney, I know she would flip out if she got to meet Mickey and Minnie plus all the princesses. I cannot wait to see her the face the first time we go!! I'm angling to go sooner than age 5, we'll see who wins! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm already planning her retrip for 2013. She'll be 5 Chat Icon

My reasoning. She won't be INTO Minnie as much by then, she's already over Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and totally into Octonauts. Phineas & Ferb are barely keeping her interest and she went through a Little Einstiens phase.. in AND out since she's been. So characters change. She was all excited and awestruck to see Alladin and her favorite Jasmine. She actually followed them all the way back to their 'home' and waited outside that place hoping for them to come back out again.

Now? meh, she'd probably hug Snow White more.

Chat Icon

My excuse (besides above) is that at 5 its just before 'real' school so she'll have something to talk about LOL Chat Icon Total BS since she I know she wont be in public school until 6 Chat Icon

Re: All these Disney posts..........................

I'd like to wait too but it stinks when the family (meaning my mom, my sisters and their kids) are planning their trip this summer and we're not. :( The only week they could all do was the one week we couldn't. Oh well, Riley isn't at the right age to hang with her older cousins at the park anyway, as we discovered last year at Disneyland.

I agree 100%. We will do many times (dh doesn't know this yet Chat Icon )

Plus chance are we will have another kid in the future and they will be too young also. I am not waiting for all my future children to be old enough Chat Icon
