Alarm system?
Approximately how much does it cost to put in an alarm system? Any recommendations of reputable companies?

We have slomins and install was free, but they do get you for extras. I did find that they were nicer and cheaper than adt. We pay about 35 a month, which to me is so worth it!

We paid a few hundred but that was bc dh wanted all this extra stuff. He was so dead set on having a top notch system and making sure it was on when I am alone. Then we got to a point where we never used it. 
We wended up turning it off. We paid about 40 per month.

We used Banner Alarm (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them) and it was probably in the vicinity of $1400 (back in 2006/2007). We pay $260/yr for central service which is billed to us quarterly. Every single window in our house is armed, every single door (even the door leading into our garage) and the attic hatch is armed as well. We also have a motion sensor in the house. We also have two keypads and an electronic fob we can use on our keychain to arm and disarm the house. They did an AMAZING installation job and we've never had a single problem with our alarm. Our keypad is also expandable so if we ever want to add on zones we can.
We had Slomins and Meenan in and we weren't impressed with what the oil companies were offering. They were cheaper but it was such a bare bones alarm system and if you wanted say, all the windows armed (which we did), it just kept adding up. I was happy to spend a little more money up front to have a really good alarm system and have the house fully protected.
Banner Alarm is on Broadway in Massapequa but they go all over the island. I am in Stony Brook and it wasn't an issue for them to come here. I was SO happy with everything!!
Edit - There is NEVER a day we don't use our alarm system. It's set at night when we're in bed and the house is always armed when we're away. Even though I live in a nice area I still feel better having my house armed, especially being in a ranch.

Same for us; we pay $83 quarterly
