Alarm System
In the MLS description for the house we're buying, it advertises that the house has an alarm system. We needed to know what company does it so we can tell the homeowners insurance company. So, our lawyer contacted the sellers, and they say they don't have an alarm system.
Is installing a system expensive? I had assumed the house came with one because it was on the MLS listing. I don't think it's right that they lied about it.

Re: Alarm System
no i dont think its expensive. it depends on what kind of "extras" you want to add but even with those ours was only like $175 and that includes two key pads.

Re: Alarm System
You can get a free basic alarm system with Slomins when you sign up for service.

Re: Alarm System
With companies like Slomins, you do not own the system and you must sign up for 5 years of service. You are locked in. Also, they give you the minimum in terms of protection.

Re: Alarm System
We had quotes from the basic systems (ie: the $175 with a few doors, key pad, etc.) up to a few thousand dollars for the full-blown paranoia package with motion detectors, glass break detectors, windows wired, upgraded text-enabled key pads, etc.

Re: Alarm System
I did 4 doors, 2 motions, shatter sensor on my sliding glass, 2 16 zone keypads and 2 central smoke alarms--DH and I both work full time in NYC so by the time a neighbor saw a fire, our house would be burned to the ground. The hard wire installation cost me $900.
Basically if you don't pay the installation you pay a higher monthly fee. Either way, you're paying for it.
