alarm system & dogs
we're planning on getting an alarm system in our home. i'm afraid that the beeping (when you open the door, before you put in the code) will drive the dog crazy. i'm not sure how high pitched it is. is it like a smoke detector/ carbon monoxide detector? or more like a cooking alarm? any experience with this? thanks!

Re: alarm system & dogs
It definitely doesn't sound like the fire alarm, lol. Just a little beep to let you know the door/window was opened. You can turn it off if it does bother you.
Oh, I just realized you were talking about the beep right before you disarm it. It is loud, but not like the smoke alarm. More like a kitchen timer. Our dogs aren't bothered by it. With our system, you can change the volume, I'm not sure if all systems are like that.
Now when the actual alarm DOES go off, that's LOUD. Piercing.

Even if it bothers the dog - they'll get used to it quick. Once its a normal sound they'll just associate with someones coming home and get excited!!
