airfare

How far in advance do you usually book it? I want a good deal.

Re: airfare

When planning vacations around holidays, I usually booked at least 4-5 months in advance, if not more. Just to get a better deal and better seat selection.

If a random vacation, then about a month or two before the date of departure.

Re: airfare

I usually book as early as possible because that's when I find the cheapest fares. Jet Blue hasn't been much of a bargain lately, and they don't open dates as early as Delta and American do.
If a fare looks good, I grab it.

We booked in November for our July St. John USVI trip, $390 round trip non-stop on American to St. Thomas. Could kick myself that I didn't get the $293 round trip - I got caught up with something else and poof! it was gone.

I agree - and I have had the same thing happen to me!!!

DH and I were both looking at flights yesterday for Orlando - he was home and I was at work - and they kept on going up so we booked.

It's cheapest to fly on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

Keep in mind that Southwest gives you 2 free bags and JetBlue gives you one free bag when booking - otherwise it's approximately $50 extra roundtrip if you are checking a bag.

Spirit charges for everything so although their base fare may look good - they nickel and dime you.

I like to pull up Kayak to compare and then go from there.
