Agggh!! Please help, can't find home insurance
Hi Everyone,
We are in the process of buying a house and everything is just so difficult, I am so frustrated!
So, now we are trying to get homeowner's insurance. I'm having an impossible time finding someone to insure us because we live near water. Yet I don't even need flood insurance!!
I mean there is water around us, but it's a few streets down and they're canals (honestly though, if we lived 2 blocks up, we'd need flood ins).
State Farm and Geico already said no. I haven't tried Allstate because they wouldn't insure us in Manhattan because we were near water and we lived on the 20th floor!
Does anyone have any suggestions as to who to call? We are 2 1/2 weeks away from closing.
TIA.

Did you try Ameriprise?
I use them for home, car and boat.

Actually, try Allstate again. I think they may have different rules for the city vs. nassau & suffolk.
We're close to the water in Queens and use Kemper.

Tri State Consumer (TSC) Insurance. They are a Long Island based company.

Re: Agggh!! Please help, can't find home insurance
We had to go with an insurance broker - we had zero luck getting insurance directly. The insurance broker put us in the system and Traveler's picked us up.
We also opted for the flood insurance because even though it wasn't required at this point, it will be when the LI Flood Map is redrawn. We figured it was better to be grandfathered in, and for $400 a year, it was peace of mind.

I had to go with AIG on my long beach property. They were the ONLY ones that would insure us!!

Re: Agggh!! Please help, can't find home insurance
UPDATE:
Thanks to everyone who has replied, I really appreciate it. I just don't understand how this all works. Some companies that won't cover us will cover others who live near water (although State Farm explained that the South Shore is harder because it lies lower than the North Shore.)
So far TSC Direct, State Farm, Geico, Met Life, Allstate, and Liberty Mutual said No. Traveler's said Yes but are pricey ($1300). Have succumbed to desperation and called 2 insurance brokers...hopefully something else will be available.
Thanks again!
