age for pillow?

DD will be 2 next month and is still sleeping in a crib? Should I introduce a pillow?

Re: age for pillow?

its a personal decision. I (as a SIDS mom) decided not to give my children pillows until they were out of the crib. My girls were younger than your DC was though. My oldest moved to a twin bed at 17 months and my youngest DD moved to a twin bed at 15 months. At that age they did great with pillows.

Re: age for pillow?

DD is 26 months and doesn't have one yet.

We are planning to give her one when we move her to her big bed next month.

Pillows were put in their cribs not long after they turned a year. I think around 14 months.

Re: age for pillow?

DD is 21 almost 22 months and in a twin size bed right now, she still has no pillow. She still does laps around the bed at night so i dont feel shes ready for one yet.

Though they're often sold with crib bedding sets, pillows are not recommended for children under 2. Kids that small can easily suffocate while using one.

Actually, older kids don't need pillows either. Parents often think a pillow will provide their child with extra comfort, not realizing that their child was doing fine without it.

If you want to introduce a pillow, it's best to wait until your toddler moves from a crib to a bed. But if you want to give him one while he's still sleeping in a crib, go with one that's small (the size of an airline pillow) and firm. Stay away from feather pillows, which are too soft, can set off allergies, and can smother a child if his head sinks into it while he's sleeping
