Re: after BFing....
I Put DD on formula after 3-4 months of Bf'ing.
My PED said to start with Either Enfamil Lipil or Similac advance. He calls them the coke and pepsi of formula, can start with either one. I tried both, DD was a bit gassier on Enfamil, so we stuck with Similac.
Your Ped will let you know

Re: after BFing....
From what I understand, the pediatrician makes the determination on formula. Also, he/she will be the one to switch formulas if necessary.

You have to talk to the pediatrician. They will determine which formula for your baby.

You also can just choose a formula...
Do the doctors get any perks from the formula companies? I am just wondering why a doctor would recommend one over the other? Anyone know?

They get samples and perhaps some dinners like the ones the pharmaceutical companies do. But there are regs. about it, I am sure. I would still go with a pediatrician's recommendation.

Re: after BFing....
You will want to be careful about setting exact goals as to when you will stop BFing. You will want to see how your baby does on Formula before stopping BFing. I use Good Start for Jason. You will want to go slowly when you transition from BM to formula. They are VERY different and you need to do the switch over weeks. Unless you have a special needs baby or your baby has allergies all of the basic formula is the same. Walmart's brand is not really different from Similac. But if you have a child who has special needs/allergies then the formula would need to be very specific.

Re: after BFing....
I agree with Michele, they all are very similar...and the packaging makes it really hard to choose! Here in the UK our doctors aren't allowed to recommend formulas, they just tell you they are all basically the same (unless you have a special needs baby (digestive wise)
